I'm curious as well...and if you guys don't mind, could you list whether you have a factory bottom end or a rebuilt/forged/aftermarket bottom end?? I would appreciate it!

Just wondering since a lot of guys run thicker oil, but I always wonder if it's on a stock bottom end, or a rebuilt bottom end with not as tight bearing clearences.

And to add in, I did the first fill with synthetic 5W-30 but will probably be switching to a synthetic 10W-40 for the next oil change.

Rotella 5w40 synthetic here. Its cheap and I have never had a problem with it thinning out. I have a forged bottom end. I tried royal purple, after 2k miles it was like water. Rotella stands up to semi trucks with 50,000 lbs of weight load

Got a question for you guys...what if you have a turbo that doesn't need a oil feed? Would you still use these thicker oils or use thinner oils like the NA guys/factory recommended? Reason why i ask is because my turbo is oil-less.

You guys run thicker oil because the heat that is generated by the turbo breaks the thin oil down right? What weight oil are the procharger guys using since they don't require oil feeds either?

Thanks,
Dee

I run the Rotelly 5-40 synthetic in everything I own, including my dirtbikes in the motor side.

Works VERY well, even after 5000K miles its still seems thick and not like some other oils I have used are thin as water when I drain them.

I understand that heavier oils cause parasitics that can affect mileage slightly, but I will take the lower mileage (by maybe 2%) in order for the motor to stay alive longer, just my .02.

It also depends on the bearing clearances the motor was built with, that is the factor that OEM uses to choose a certain type of oil to use in that particular engine.

So looser bearing tolerances = thicker oil and tighter tolerances = thinner oil?
