Default What size oil restrictor for 76mm journal bearing turbo

I bought a turbo oil kit that I have installed on my 76mm turbo (stock ls1). The flange that bolts onto the turbo for the oil supply (4an) is only sized with a tiny hole. The part description says something along the lines of 'reduced size to avoid over oiling'. How do I know if this is going to be enough oil, the hole is pretty tiny.

Bump. Looking to get the car out on the street for a shake down today or tomorrow. Want to know if I'm getting the oil I need to the turbo.

I believe 3an and 4an are the common oil feed sizes. Ive got a 3an on mine. If there is oil leaking out of the turbo...its getting too much.

Unrestricted 4an? I'm way under that for size with this restricter. I guess I will drill it out a bit. Thanks.

buy a .080 or .060

you can get t4 oil feed flanges with a 4an fitting with it predrilled and restricted for like 5-11 dollars on ebay and amazon.

This is what I have now, just that the one I have the hole is concerningly small - I'm not sure what the size is - it might be in the .06 range already, is that enough?.

If your drain line is adequately large you shouldnt need a restrictor at all.

I have the same turbo, with the same feed and drain. I run no restriction and have 0 problems.

Im confused what any of this oil restrictor talk is about with a journal bearing turbo?

As was said, if the drain is big enough, with the correct angle, etc. you should be fine.

Like he said a journal bearing turbo does not require an oil restrictor. Make sure your oil drain is as straight as possible I run a -10 to the oil pain no restictor and have no issues on my 76.

Some turbo's need restrictions or they can smoke at idle. You need to contact the people that produce the center of your turbo if it's a hybrid and they can give you the spec. My Garrett that has over 100,000 miles on it uses a .060 hole to maintain the oil pressure at the turbo of between 9-40 psi. Mine actually goes a touch over 40 psi at 5000rpm and up, but it does not smoke or have any problems. My engine without restriction would smoke at idle with a -4 feed, it was 60 psi at the turbo.

u don't need a restrictor unless you are above 80psi oil pressure wot. you can call garrett or turbonetics, many turbo vendors and I think the next size down on restrictor, I know it doesn't change a lot

All our turbo builds get restrictors. Had a few in the past smoke pretty good at idle or decel badly. We use .060 restrictors with no turbo problems. Our cars ussually have 40-50psi of oil pressure at hot idle.

The need for a restrictor seems to vary. Some are fine without one, some need one to prevent oil from getting past the seals. Go with what the manufacturer says. On3 told me to use a .0625" since my oil pressure is high, 80 psi by 4000 rpm.
