Default How are they not pushing water??

I see alot of people starting to up the amount of boost. Especially since hot rod built the 4.8. Guys are talking about running 18-21 lbs of boost on stock long blocks. I have always thought 14-16 lbs was were they started pushing water. What is everyone else seeing?

most will push water in the 22-25 range unless they are running thick deck heads with 1/2" studs.
Ive seen Ls3 heads run 20-21psi with out pushing.

Actually the only thing that pushes water is cylinder pressure.

It's when the cylinder pressure gets so high, that the mating surface between the cylinder head to the head gasket to the deck of the block seperates, allowing water to push past.

13-15 on most 76mm kits with stock bolts/gaskets seems to be the normal pushing limit with E85. Haven't seen a stock bottom end push on LS9s/ARP studs yet unless the head was warped badly.

A local car has started to push water on ARP studs tq'd to 90ftlbs, LS9s, iron 408/Trickflow heads, c16. He was also running twin billet 67/66s precisions going 140+ at 3200lbs in the 1/8th, so making a little power.

I'll be happy to trap 130 in the 1/8.

Are arp bolts any good for around 630-650rwhp with ls9 head gaskets or will the stock bolts do It with ls9 gaskets .... for a 5.3

this is alot of good info. this is my first FI motor so I'm a noob too. lol How long have yu ran yours at 18 psi, maxx? So anyone talking about running over 15si on a stock longblock are basically quaranteed to push water the way it sounds. I dont see many people running more than 14 psi or so. Is there a reason most aren't running more? Are you guys running stock heads or are most running aftermarket for the higher boost numbers?

I turned mine up more, was running 20-26lbs for another 800 miles, sold the long block to a friend that is now using a TC78 running 22lbs (made 720rwhp) in a '70 C10. He has gone a couple thousand more, but sadly I think the bottom is dieing as silver material is starting to show in the filter with a slight knock at cruising RPMs for the last couple hundred miles with no loss of performance or oil pressure. They changed heads/lifters/rockers/springs hoping it was in the top end, atleast everything can go on the next JY victim.

Several other stock headed/stock short blocks around here running similar boost numbers, HP in the 7-800rwhp range on E85 with out pushing.
