Default stock ls1 power handling?

hey guys, kinda new to the ls stuff so i have some questions. i have a ls1 out of an 02 corvette that had piston slap. if i did forged pistons and rods how much horse power will the stock heads, crank, and block handle? im shooting for 600 horse on a reliable twin turbo set up. thanks

shouldn't be a problem. Even if you left it stock.

the only reason i was saying pistons and rods would be replaced is because the motor has piston slap. but i actually just read you cant bore these motors? so i would keep stock pistons and just do a nice set of rings and re-sleeve it? thanks

lol... you need to do some more research bud.. resleeving isnt just a cheap little job any ole machine shop can do. if your worried about piston slap your going to want to research pistons as well. 2618 vs 4032 alloys. dont even think of putting stock pistons back in. that would be very very..... bad. either run it as is or rebuild it, but dont throw stock parts back in to see 500+ rwhp.

regardless yes these motors cant be "bored out" but they can be honed. Most aftermarket pistons require .005 - .007 hone. ls1 can be taken out .010 supposedly.

Buy the forged rods and pistons. The piston size you will want is a 3.905". However, in the unlikely event the bores are actually wore past that have the block checked before ordering parts. And it will hold the 600+ whp you want all day every day with proper tuning.

ok well thats what i will do for sure. forged pistons and rods and different cam but with stock block, heads, crank and either an ls6 intake and fuel injection or i will carb it. any thoughts on what is cheaper to carb or fuel inject but still hit my 600 horse objective? thanks

as far as the heads.......put a set of studs in....or they will come off. and crack that block. id go with some good gaskets too. possibly even lower the compression a bit, and run e85 or add methanol. other than that the pistons and rods and rod bolts you have already done supposedly will be able to handle the power. those heads will be ok....but not great. even if you port them they will not be as good as a set of 317's. id spend the lil money it would cost to get a set and slap those on. they flow great and they are cheap.

^ I hope you don't mean to say a set of ported LS1 castings won't flow as well as the 6.0 heads untouched? Because that would be incorrect.

I would like to keep these heads. i will port them real nice and do whatever springs I would need. would that still give me a reliable 600 horse?

You don't need to port anything. With proper Turbo selection 600 rwhp will be easy even with a totally stock short block.

for 600 rwhp you wont need much more then a tc76 turbo, let alone twin turbos. tc76 should get you there with excellent spool time. you really dont need to touch your heads or intake. arp studs and ls9 gaskets are standard... then get some siemens 60 lb injectors and a pump that will keep up. id recommend twin walbros because they are awesome and cheap. dont worry about upgrading stock fuel rails. people upgrade those way too early. when your stuffing air down the throat of a ls1 it doesnt take exotic parts to make power... 600 horsepower is a lot of power especially on the street.. you will love it. Just get your motor forged for reliability by someone who knows what they are doing.

well i was only saying intake because I dont have on... so i would get which ever one would be better because I have to buy one anyway. Ive been reading that the ls6 intake is better so i would get one of those. and what about a cam. I know this is a crazy subject but I want something that has a nice lope to it but still some lower end power. any suggestions on that?
