Default Who's running the holley coils?

Just picked up a dominator efi setup and was told to run the holley coils with boost. These things are huge and a major pain since each coil controls a cylinder on each bank. I was curious where everyone is mounting these things and if anyone has the plug wire lengths needed handy. Thanks in advance for any help.

At the moment, cant use the gm coils with high boost/cylinder pressure.

We are planning on running the Holley coils. When I finish making the mount I will post up some pictures.

LsMonster has some nice mounts that mount above the oil pan, he does not have pictures in his build thread here,

https://ls1tech.com/forums/forced-in...e-refit-7.html

But i have seen him post them on bullet. Maybe we can get him to throw a pic or two, they are really nice, like everything else on his car.

I thought I had read that Holley was fixing the issues with the stock coils a while back?

I put my coils on my block stiffener plates but I have had no luck with the Holley coils. If could be that they are getting too hot where I have them or I got a bad batch of coils. Either way, I have pulled them off and will be going to a Jesel belt drive distributor, MDS HVC II coil and a MDS 7531 Digital plus box... I just don't trust the Holley coils at this point.

Nice install. That would definately keep them out of the engine bay and clean things up.

Heat is an electrical components worst enemy, and in that location, they're literally gonna get hotter than hell.

True, but I mount GM LS coils there and have had no problem... Even in off road cars that run for hours at a time in 100+ heat. But with that said, maybe the Holley coils are more sensitive to heat...

Thought id update, i mounted my coils this weekend, pay no attention to the wires, i bought another wire kit and we are going to run them equal, 4 down front and 4 down back to clean it up real well.

I took stock coil brackets and cut some 16g sheet to fit nicely to the bottom of the holley and welded them to the stock coil brackets, painted, blam...

I had a buddy make me plates that line up with two of the threaded holes on each of the valve covers out of 1/2" thick aluminum. The wires crossing over are all under the cowl when the motor is in the car so you can't really see them unless you are looking for them.

We've definitely got more boosted miles on the Holley ECU's than anyone else out there. We were the ones that brought the stock coil issue with boost out into the daylight. They are working diligently on the problem and in the mean time, the Holley coils are working very well. Only downsides being no individual cylinder ignition tunning and the fact that one wire from each coil has to cross over to the opposite bank. We are also beta testing the boost control which is kick ***. Hope to have a release candidate here very very soon from what I'm told.

Bottom line, the Holley System crushes any other priced within $2K of it.

Well, i have to admit i havent seen these coils in person but judging by the pics they dont look huge. Especially compared to four individual coils per side. I must be wrong though. They look like coils that would be used on GM 3800 engines. Wonder if they are interchangeable???? May have to change up the connector???? That would be interesting to try. The Holley system is VERY impressive though.

EDIT: I forgot the 3800 coils are bolted to the top of the ignition module on those engines so disregard my dumbass idea of trying to interchange these coils. The initial appearance threw me off. If you people are familiar with the coils i am referring too then you know what i mean about the ign module mounting.

I'm also running them now due to the boost malfunctions that I was not aware of before purchasing the system ;{ BUT, the holley tech guys and their customer service in helping me get things off the ground and trouble shooting has been outstanding!

The self-learn feature is really priceless. Especially on a setup like mine where I have no base map anywhere in the ballpark to start off with. Just set your target AFRs and go! I wouldn't trade it for any other system.
