Default 408 CID what turbo

In building process of my 408, and trying to make the right decision for my turbo, I'm wanting a 1000hp street/strip car on E85 on a 4L80 and Ive got a few question.

1 should I do a big single as in a pt88 will that make the hp I want or should I move to twins

2. What exactly is the differnce between kits and dabbing your turbo and piping, do you lose pressure without the piping being welded and can I make this hp with a turbo kit instead of having a shop fab my piping

3 what brand of turbo/ kit should I use

Any help will be great

1: a PT88 will meet your goals without problems (See Forced Inductions Sponsor)
2: I dont understand the question... are you asking about fabing your own pipes?

If you want a big single do a GT88 1.08 or 1.23 AR with the 97mm turbine wheel. It will make 1100-1150 on full boogy. Automagic had one on his set-up and made 1050-1140rwhp on E85. A GT4788 1.08 or 1.23 AR would also meet your goals on max boost before the back pressure starts to negate any further gains with either of those. A S488 96mm turbine wheel 1.32 ar is going to be close to the same too but might make more than that looking at the map and ratings for it.

Twins would be optimal. If I did twins I would use S364's or S366's with the 73mm turbine wheel and t4 flange. .90 AR for those.

Talk to Dr. Turbo on here about all of those turbo's he carries them.

If you're wanting a pre-fabbed kit call josh@ky turbo or go on ebay and order the OBX f-body turbo manifolds, or use c6 or truck manifolds and have a local welding shop or race shop do the cross-over and cold-side piping for you.

It doesn't matter if a shop welds and fabs the piping for you or you buy a kit, the pressure won't drop or be lost because of one way of building it or the other.

I would get with a proven shop. People can fab a kit but that doesnt mean its setup right. Spend your money one time and do it right.

I have a 408 and was told to do a gt91 by Dr. Turbo. I will start a build thread soon. My goal is 1000whp and shouldn't have any problem getting that.

Like a few have already said GT 88 or 91 with the 97mm turbine.

Truck manifolds will support that power level.

Pressision Turbo makes a smaller t4 flanged turbine housing that fits on the GT-88. I have one. I think it is a .98 ar. Just throwing that in there. I use the GT-88 with the T6 1.08 ar turbine housing with truck manifolds and 3" SS pipes to the turbo. I built the kit myself just ecause I am a do it your self kind of guy. I would not recommend this for just anyone other then die hard DIY guys. The kits are not cheap but that is because there is a ton of work involved in getting everything right and making it fit right.

I have had no problem reaching 1000rwhp + with this turbo.

Good luck

I'm also looking for a turbo for my 408 that should be done this weekend. From what I've been reading on the forum I've pretty much decided on the GT91. Just hope I can get one before the summers over lol.

I am fabbing up my kit right now. I had to wait a little bit, but I hope it was worth the wait. We will see.

Another vote here for Dr. Turbo. He was one of very few that had time to respond to my PM's and was very helpful. I'm also doing a 402 w/4L80 and he recommended the GT91 for me also (which I should be ordering within the next week or two).

It took about 3 weeks. Not that long IMO.
