Hey everyone,

I decided to go the forced induction route and want to procharge my car with either a D1 or F1A. Car is a M6 and I plan on doing either a 370 or 390 iron short block. Which heads are decent and affordable, not really looking for a drag car so peak number aren't important at all. Want to keep this car as reliable as possible with the head + cam combination.

Stock 317's.

 

I got my LSAs bare cast brand new for $340 shipped for the pair. I got stock rockers and valves to go along with them, and patriot extreme .660 lift springs, then had them ported by a local shop. All in all with porting and everything I spent around $1100, which isn't bad for a head that's meant for boost, and flow extremely well.

Cheapest route would be stock 317s with a set of dual springs though if you're on a tight budget.

 

I'm selling my trickflows(thick deck head so perfect for boost) for 1600, not sure what cheap is to you.

 

What size are they, I am in NC.

 

Anything that is NOT a factory casting that has a thicker deck is good. I picked up a set of dart 205's for Peanuts and they have been just fine for me. (although on your larger engine you would want something bigger than the 205's)

 

stage 3 ported 243's with upgraded valvetrain. Cheapest and best route imo.

stock 317's can be had on the cheap

 

Trickflow 220's "as-cast" are a good head with a thick deck than can be improved upon down the road if need be

 

Exactly what I went with and if need be you can always have the TFS 235cc program run through them. I got a great deal on mine from TEA with upgraded exhaust valves and a trunion upgrade for my stock rockers.

i keep getting that the consensous is 317s. what about 243s on low amounts of boost? say 10 and under?

 

anyone? was wondering 243s with what sized gasket to lower the CR a touch to be slightly closer to the 241s CR to use low amonts of boost? would be a more affordable route

 

LS9 gaskets will lower it

 

Second the LSAs, they flow a **** ton (on par with most ported 243/317 castings) and have a thicker deck.

Although you would have to get a new intake manifold too, so if you're really looking for cheap cheap stuff then like everyone else mentioned get the 317s with a good valve job.

Both of those will lower the CR by a decent amount also.

 

LS3's don't look to bad

 

Just get some patriot stage 2 317's or PRC 317's...come set up nice and good springs on em. flow over 300cfm with a decent size runner volume..and they are cheap.
