Default Forged 6.0L, S480 Combo - Feedback

Would like to get some feedback from folks running a forged 6.0L, with a S480 (T6/1.32) and truck manifolds. Especially interested in what cam you are running, how it spools the turbo and performance results, dyno and/or track. Looking to make a decision on a camshaft and nothing beats feedback from actual users.

My setup will be in a 3,000# Fox with a glide, used mostly for the track but also street-driven. Will be using stock 317s and an LS1 intake.

TIA

I'm building a similar setup. I going with lq9 forged with 317 heads,th400 and s480 turbo.
I going to use it in a 99 Camaro. I went with PatG for my cam.

Not a S480...Comp Oil-less/Billet/ceramic ball-bearing 80mm T4 Turbo, Lq9 364ci, TFS 235's, Oliver Billet rods, Wiseco Coated boost pistons, Stock crank, Fast LsxRT 90mm tb, Virginia Speed VTC3 turbo cam, TH400. ARP head studs, main studs, ARP L19 rod bolts, doweled main caps, Coated everything...cam bearings, main bearings, Trend hardened and coated wrist pins...etc. Looking for 900+rwhp...hoping for 1000rwhp @20psi or less on e85. Bottom 9's or high 8's @3300-3400lbs...street driven G-body El Camino.

Car is not running yet...but i'm pretty sure it'll make atleast 900rwhp on e85. Unleashed performances Vette made 810rwhp @17.5lbs of boost with a Comp 78mm oil-less turbo with a stock 346 motor with stock everything (stock heads, intake, tb...etc) and a custom cam on e85. Another Unleashed Performance project made nearly 800rwhp with the same turbo and a 5.3 with stock heads.

What's wrong with an LS1 intake? I know it is not as good as an LS6 or Edelbrock, but when the budget does not allow for every whizzbang trick part for a build, you make the best of what you have.

My racecar used to run a forged 6.0L with LS6 cam and a 1.32 AR S480.....With 317 heads, an LS6 intake, and a truck manifold setup we were making 780hp at the tires on 16 #'s of boost. That was through a jericho 4 speed and a 9 inch with 2.47 gears.

It spooled around 3800 and came in fast and hard. Ours has the bullseye race cover on the compressor for better flow.

We blew it up so I can't help you with big boost numbers.....Our new setup uses LSA heads, victor jr.....blah blah....doesnt help you.

BUT....We are going to wring the pee out of the turbo....close off the wastgate and let it eat.

two wastegates or wastegate and BOV what usually is the best setup

Either or, you usually always want a bov on any setup. You can do two wastegates, use two smaller ones mounted right after the flange on the manifolds. Or one big wastegate mounted on the merge.

Very nice responses.

Baked,

that is some impressive numbers from a stock bottom-ended LS2 and the ET in your sig more than backs up the dyno numbers. You have a PM.

Fahreschnell - that's nuts!

Thanks but making that much power didnt allow that stock bottom end to live very long. It ended up streching a few rod journals about .010" lol.

The numbers in my sig are from my backup motor.. It is my old 347 that I had my niyrous setup on. It is almost 12: 1 and has a set of ported 853' s on it. We put it in the car for the hell of it and it has done pretty good. It made 930rwhp on 19psi. The numbers I ran in,my sig were ran on 16psi.

Just about what I got. Got mine running a few days ago but need a longer driveshaft. Hope to have it out by next weekend with the driveshaft.

I was up in MA too on the 4th but it was a very short trip.

370, 317 heads, Vic Jr., TU1 cam, 4l80e and MWC 9"

Sounds good idling lol
