Too much, not looking forward to any of it.

Things to buy:
Torque arm, upper control arms, pusher cooling fans and wiring, fuel lines and pump wiring, a line lock/abs delete/brake lines/front brakes, drive shaft, gauges.

Then install all of that stuff, along with the engine, clutch, trans, and tick master cylinder.

Dyno'd the engine again, made 992hp/798tq at 16psi. A local company contacted me, they came up with a concentrated octane booster fuel additive that they wanted to test on a turbo engine to see what kind of results it would produce. A quart of this additive to 5 gallons of 91 octane makes it 103 octane. They are working on getting it released soon, they have a website in the works too www.race-gas.com.

We originally wanted to first test 91, and find the limits of it, both boost and timing. Then pour in the additive and see how much more boost we could throw at it. Well stuff just wasn't going right both with the engine and turbo setup and we never did get to do that exact set of tests. Luckily I was able to fix the engine problem easily, just glad it happened on the engine dyno and not after I had it in the car.

I also found that my wastegate is too small, and won't control boost under 18 psi. We first thought it may have been due to my wastegate angle, not being optimal to the flow of the exhaust. So I switched to LS1Nova's turbo setup to see if his would control boost better, in hopes of having a more stable test subject. His wastegate angle is optimal, and it was known to work well with his setup. It worked better with mine, but still wouldn't go under 14psi. So we just ended up doing the tests just at that level of boost.

With 14.5 psi, 91 octane, and 18 degrees of timing it made 879hp consistently. Then we poured in the additive, didn't change anything and it made 907hp, 28hp just from a quart of octane booster, not too shabby! But still, came short of E85 (actually E70 due to winter blend) which came in at 950hp, again all three fuel tests with 14.5psi, and 18 degrees. We just had to adjust the AFR for each of the fuels. The nice thing about the 91 with or without the additive, it didn't use near as much fuel as E85.

I would've really liked to turn up the boost and get some hero pulls in, but once again time ran out for me and business had to continue on. I couldn't hold up the dyno for a week. Oh well it was nice to get more useable data, and some more bugs worked out. Pretty excited about the 992/798 at 16 psi, can't wait to see what it does at 22+ in the car.

Sounds like some good numbers! I might have to try some of that octane booster out in mine... Would have been a pain in the butt to fix the cam gear issue in the car. lol

I'm kind of surprised your wastegate won't control boost a little lower. Mine is at about the same orientation on my crossover compared to yours (maybe a bit more angle) and it holds 6 psi solid with the 6 lb spring in it.

Yessir, its good stuff. It makes pump gas smell like VP Q16! The only side effect that I could see is it turns everything orange, sparkplugs and exhaust all turn bright rusty orange, instead of the usual black lol. Yes the cam situation would have taken 5 times longer to do this in the car, only to have it happen a 2nd time shortly after!

On the wastegate, I don't get it either, our setups are damn near identical! I just have less cubes is all. Must be an efficiency thing, I'll have to see if I can learn more about it. With the smallest 3psi spring in, still went to 14. I don't know if we can fit a bigger gate in without some extensive re-engineering of the kit.

I'd suggest it has something to do with RPM, but what do I know? lol

Most we went this time around was 7300 a few times. Majority of the pulls were 3000-7000 being we were doing so many, didn't really need to spin it too high.

I'm glad to see you're accuiring some data and doing some testing. Very nice to see some real data for a change. You made 500 hp n/a and 950 on 14.5, (14.7 one atmosphere) this shows this is a very efficient setup. As long as you don't run into any inefficiencies (back pressure, outlet temps, etc) you should make right around 1,182 hp on 22 psi. I will be paying attention to this in the future to see how it works out with the 6 speed setup.

me and my friends have often talked about how cool a destroked motor would be, my friend always says he wants to build a 5.0 LSX for the fords we throw them in, then we can say we have a 5.0 hahah

We have some diamond pistons sitting here that I was going to do that with, if I had some spare time and money. They are built for boost, top land moved down, lateral gas ports, 3.830 bore (.050 over 4.8/5.3 block) for a 6.100 .927 pin rod, and a 4.8 crank. I have a fresh .010/.010 4.8 crank too. If anyone is interested in a 5.0L shortblock for boost, I can build it!

How would a 6.2 block with it's bigger bore affect this setup I wonder? When is it going in the car? I was wanting to build a 390 but this has me very interested in doing this with the LS2 block and AFR 225s I have.

This is one sick motor! Job well done. I'll probably be contacting you with a thousand stupid questions.

Increasing octane does not increase power. higher octane actually burns slower, there is not anymore energy in it. Higher octane is only effective because it allows you to run more timing. I call BS on that octane booster making 28hp.
