Default Any Procharger guys have main belt problems?

I'm not real sure if this has anything to do with the fact that the car is supercharged or not, but figured I'd ask here anyway.

My main belt keeps trying to walk off at the crank pulley... I'm running an ATI under driven crank pulley and a stock auto tensioner, however I do have a different pulley on the tensioner (taller sidewalls). It only walks 1 rib off and seems to do it at higher rpms. Any ideas? Do I need a manual tensioner?

If anyone else has had this problem, please chime in.

I have a procharger d1sc on my camaro and kept throwing off my main belt at high rpm. I put a manual tensioner on it and havent had a problem again. I had no misalignment issues with any pullies, belt was and is nice and straight.

I used to throw mine all the time. It actually wiped out the blower belt before as well. I put a speed Inc manual tensioner on it and didn't have a problem with it again. Throw a manual tensioner, put a decent amount of tension on it and you'll be fine. I honestly think it has something to do with the harmonics and how much the belt is able to deflect. I tried putting a new spring adjust tensioner on it and it helped for a bit but did it again...with the manual it hasn't done it again yet.

Need some help guys, can't get this belt right but have tried shimming the auto tensioner both ways.

I don't see why a manual tensioner would help....I have this exact same set up on my car and can spin to 7200rpms with no problem but I have a stock balancer.

I'm going to grind material off the auto tensioner and try to bring it closer in to hold belt back

Here is a video:

Mine did the same when I put the blower on. I put a manual tensioner on. Has not happened since for 3 years now.

Car didn't have a blower, but my TA would throw the main belt at high RPM also. Put a Katech manual tensioner on it and haven't had a single problem since.

This is a brand new tensioner from napa... Still having the same problem. Thinking about just going with a manual.

If you have a new tensioner and at that low rpms it has to be an alignment issue. Do you have a
Straight edge to put on it. Something is off.

I have been having this issue as well since putting my motor back together. It jumps two ribs on the tensioner and powersteering pulley but stays on the alternator and crank pulley without moving. I can't see how the pulley could be the issue, but I'll try reversing the pulley on the tensioner to see if that could help.

What's this 'buick pulley' people talk about?

Manual Katech tensioner on my accessory belt, no issues here.

Mine did walk when I had the auto tensioner, but I just assumed it was f**ked. Running the manual ever since with zero problems.

Hmmm. Belt alignment must be off pretty bad then? That's odd. I know mine is off just a touch and the manual tensioner with quite a bit of tension on it took care of the problem.

It looks like the way the belt is walking either the crank pulley is to deep in the motor or the belt grooves are machined wrong.

I'm running a ATI super damper with the stock spring tensioner, never had any problems with the main belt walking on me.

Simple straight edge is cheap and I'd say more effective.

I think my issue is the age of my belt for one. It's the original belt, although it was run on the car for a good 6-7 of the last 12 years the car was running as I had an underdrive pulley on the car. I don't think the crank pulley is too deep or else I'd be having issues with the Procharger belt.

It just sucks that you have to remove the head unit to replace the main belt.

How much tension are you putting on it, and what condition is the belt in ?

Try a new belt and apply a decent amount of tension. IMO the reason I had issues with the auto tensioner was down to the fact it was just too weak.

Run it for a while then re-tension the belt, as a new belt will stretch a little.

And following on from another thread....it's worth fitting an LS2 pump with the pulley pulled off a few mm.
Creates so much extra space in there !
