Default Head swap.

Well i finished up the head swap last night. I did a set of home ported 6.0 heads ported by yours truley with the help of MASC performance in orlando here. I also opened the chambers up from 71cc to 73cc which gives me a final compression of about 9.3:1. I haven`t messed with the tuning yet but the car runs great. Took it out last night for an hour or so then came home changed the oil and up'd the boost from 7 to 11psi and went for another drive. Holly S!!t did the heads make a differance feels like i gained 70hp it' like driving a totally differant car. It`s amazing how much of a differance the lower compression makes with FI. The car just feels better and I didn`t really notice any differance as far as drivability with the lower comp. it still feels just as strong off boost. But i do have to get the damn oil return fixed on the turbo I can tell it's been spiting oil into the intake because the pipes are coated with oil and when i pulled the heads off the pistons and chambers are filled with carbon buildup. It looked horrible. But the cylinders looked good they still have the crosshatching on them from honing. Here's afew pics of the swap, you can see the carbon on the pistons and the cross hatching on the cylinders along with a few shots of the new heads and one shot of one new head bolted on and one of the old ones still on. along with the finished product.

Ya like that Huh. It was red but i decided i'd paint it to match the exterior of the car. I also ground off all the extra bolt bosses on the valvecovers to give them that smoothed look. It looks purdy.

Quick question guys. Is it normal to lose a couple PSI of vacume when switching to ported heads with a larger chamber? Thanks.

How much vacuum are you pulling? Mine dropped a couple when I went forged and lower comp. It idles at 13-14, but I think most it would depend on size of the cam.

Right now i'm pulling 19-20in, but before i'd see around 21-22in. so it's just 2in but thats most likely caused by the better flowing heads.

Interesting...I had my 73cc LS6 Heads opened up to 77CC by WCCH and used some .065" Cometic Head Gaskets to lower the CR from 9.67:1 (-.014 deck) to 8.97:1. My Vacuum is 10" until the car is warmed up then it is 12"..my understanding is 8" at idle is fine. When I am cruising and I let off the gas it is more like 22". I have a forged motor, my valve covers vented and a bigger cam..so that probably explains the lower vacuum at idle. I am retuning this weekend.
