Default Procharger with 11+ compression

OK, so I know this question has been asked a lot and it is not the ideal way to do things but I am curious if anyone has lightly boosted a higher compression motor(8 lbs or less).

Basically I have a 383 with 11.5 cr big cam etc etc. The plan is to put a blower on and run low boost for a year or so until I have money again to swap the pistons out and make serious power.

Has anyone built something similar without meth or e85? Any info would be appreciated.

I know the tune needs to be spot on, but im not sure if it is possible. I read a few older threads on this and I didnt see anyone who did something similar without e85 or meth

Thanks
Matt

why not just buy a cheap set of 317's? i know of some people running a higher compression with boost, but not quite that high.

I wouldn't run too much boost with that. I probably would just leave it N/A until you can get the pistons. You are probably going to need to run 110, E85, or another high octane fuel to prevent detonation.

Just a thought. Run colder plugs and a higher octane gas to reduce detonation. (Just noticed this was already mentioned, ha)

Risky, but like mentioned swap heads and you should be able to run a small amount of boost.

We got 547 rw on a very mild built ls1... but its a risky gamble..

low boost, meth kit, and a great tuner. Try running a pulley that will produce the least amount of boost. The big cam will probably help bleed off a lot so thats good.

A good tuner is a MUST

Makes me think of the C6 Z06 guys running a Procharger since they are 11.1 (IIRC).

A solid tune you should be ok on 8psi. It wil lprobably make great power too. Honestly though I would at least just run a meth kit for added insurance. Any little hiccup or bad gas once and it wont like it.

I would run the hell out of that all day long on E85 though btw.

Thanks for all the replies.

I was originally going to do a nitrous motor, but then I decided that filling bottles all the time would suck.

I will have to look into e85. Not sure how much money is involved in that.

The 317's are a good idea, the only reason I dont want to do that is I have a ton of money in my nice TEA TFS 225's with turned down LS3 hollow stem valves. Honestly, there would prolly be very little difference in power between the 2 heads boosted, but I cant let these heads sit.

Thanks,

Matt

E85 and any decent tuner will not have a problem. I'm at 9 psi and 10.75 comp

E85 is not bad at all. You hear horror stories but just talk to your tuner or someone that actually runs it. They will tell you it works well. There is not a whole lot of cost involved so much as making sure you have all your bases covered for it.

-Injectors to compensate for the 30% BTU difference.
-Enough pump to flow 30% more as well.
-Lines that are proven to run E85. (Can be done cost effective.) Again look at what the people in the real world are running not what the net says. Usually if not all the time you want a Teflon hose. Although people are getting away with regular old Autozone hose I would be cautious. Just do your research and make the wisest decision possible. When all else fails ask the tuner.

I'd definitely use teflon hose, rubber will gel up. Bob

I agree I would not cheapen up on something like fuel line especially running a corrosive fuel.

I'd say go E85, get a good tuner, and let her eat. You will actually make more WHP per lb of boost with higher compression. The tuner just has to be good, and you can't get greedy.
