I'm thinking of upgrading to an F1a from my D1. How much boost and HP does a F1a make compared to a D1-sc? I have a built motor 396, 9.5 compression, H/C/I, 1-7/8 headers and all supporting mods. 7.65 crank pully. Meth and 93 pump gas. I have max out my D1 and get about 15 to 17 lbs most of time with no filter. Mostly 15lbs. I shift at 6500. Just wondering how much more boost and HP I might be getting on a maxed out F1a, and does the power come in faster with the F1a? It is hard to hook on street now.
On my '99 Camaro I was seeing 20 psi of boost with an F-1A. The engine was a 408 with 9.5/1 compression, AFR 225 heads, our blower cam, and a Vic Jr intake. This was with running through the truck inlet hat and an air filter. The F-1A takes a little more power to turn it, so belt slippage can become a problem, however, it has a 5.40/1 gear ratio while your D-1SC has a 4.10/1. With the 5.40/1 gear ratio you don't run as small of a blower pulley, and larger pulleys give better belt wrap. I was using a 3.90 pulley on my Camaro. As you add more boost, the point where it starts to come in drops down as the blower is spinning faster at any given rpm. Bob

Hi Bob

Great info ,

What belt and crank pulley size was this achieved on and how much power did it show?

I bought an F1A the other day locally and swapped out my old D1SC .

Maxed out with a 3.9/7.5 pulley combo, I believe i have an issue due to the fact it produced almost identical power and boost figures as the D1.

I have posted on other thread with someone with a similar issue.

Any further information would be greatly appreciated ,

cheers

I had a 3.90 blower pulley and a 7.65 crank pulley. We saw 18 to 20 psi of boost with this combo. The 5000 stall converter wasn't going to produce good dyno numbers. It takes around 1000 hp for a 3500lb vehicle to run a 9.0 in the 1/4 mile. Bob

that is one very fast Camaro !!!

Hmmm, now i really suspect i have an issue ,

416 LS3 , ported LS3 heads , GT7 cam , 9.5 comp big exhaust

16 psi at 7000rpm 635 hp (Dyno Dynamics) no filter on the back.

This cant be right for an F1A maxed out and $3000 later

thanks for the info .

cheers

Unless you're up in a higher elevation, or a really low compression ratio, you do have a problem. I'm at 800 to 900 ft. Bob

I am near the coast so very low, my compression should be 9.5 with the 68cc heads and 4.07inch -20cc pistons at 0 deck with the .042 gasket.

I suspect a blocked intercooler at this stage ,

cheers

9.5/1 is what I had too. I would agree on the intercooler being the first place to look in to. Bob

Hey Bob ,

Problem worked out as we suspected!

24 psi reading before the cooler , 16 psi after the cooler , with out filter.

Getting custom larger flow intercooler made up ,

cheers

Good deal, you found the problem. You'll have to post up after you get the new intercooler installed. Bob

Sure,

I will have to work out how much of a restriction i will still need to add after the new intercooler by adding a filter.

Bit cautious on the boost level and also how much a stock alloy block can handle.

Cheers
