LS coils have plenty of poke. If you're having to run a gap less than 25thou, something is wrong elsewhere ( or indeed a coil or more could be faulty )
But generally they are very reliable
I have the MSD wires too, and as you say, sometimes they just dont click in nicely. I always persevere until they do click in though, and alwas put some di-electric grease on the boot before putting it on the plug.
The semi-flexi plug end on them is handy. Does the firecore have this, or is it a fixed end ?
But generally they are very reliable

On high boost, high cylinder pressure high nitrous use etc. plug gap is very important and having to run a tight gap just comes with that territory.
I run a .024 on 250 shot with B9EFS plugs.

That may vary with actual coil.
I run my early coils with the epoxy back at around 4.5ms. ( I dont use a factory ecu, so not sure what tables you have. )
But it seems around 5ms is the most they will tolerate. Someone more familiar with the factory ecu and tuning software can advise. But it's always worth checking ( because it costs nothing lol )
