It was 346ci, th350 trans / 3600 converter. Those races were @ 11psi, after it blew the tires off in high gear I took my time accelerating so it wasn't as brutal. The cobra made 520whp.

Can someone explain why all cylinders, pistons, Rods, and crank check out at the machine shop? The only problem with the engine was a hairline crack just above the engine mount location on the passenger side.
How is it that detonation caused the crack on the outside of the block across the cylinder wall, and the inner sleeve looks fine?

I have seen these on a few SBC's, cracked right below the deck surface above the motor mount.

These are iron blocks I'm assuming? I just find it hard to believe this is a fatigue failure in the aluminum due to ice expansion.
Potential root causes:
1) entorque load + aluminum block
2) detonation
3) ice expansion - fatigue failure
Any more?
