how much boost can a stock ls1 handle
#22
i am the king of cheap turbo and i would never tell you 1000 dollars and a weekend, i can do it in a weekend, ive done it in a weekend many times if i must toot my own horn.
if someone is saying that, they are giving you parts or lying to you lol
ive done stuff fairly cheap but it was stuff that we had laying around, previously purchased.
i would say heads cam 450whp is way more reliable than throwing all the turbo bits on it.

450whp isnt worth the trouble in my opinion.
i dont think stock injectors will get you there, i tuned a friends corvette on 40lb cobra injectors and it made 430rwhp on like 97%duty cycle. so 28s wont get you too far in turbo land.

don't bother with methanol injection for a daily driver, if it were to ever fail and you floored it; there goes your motor. The point is it is another item that could go screwy.
do you have an airflow amount (maximum) for that turbo?
in order to put on that STS kit, you will need a minimum of replacing:
factory in-tank fuel pump with 255 pump & WIRING HARNESS (I cannot stress this enough)
Fuel injectors 42# @43.5psi or just larger to get you to 500
intercooler
TUNE
use factory manifolds & pipe to the rest of your exhaust
since you got a used STS kit, if it was an older model, you will want to trash their PCV setup and get a catch can along with a better one way valve to prevent boost going into the crankcase. You will also want to replace the scavenge pump with a mocal or turbowerx.
I can't remember all this stuff...been too long. Look at my first few pages of my build and problems that I found with the older "kit"

If this link doesn't work just look up ls1 rear mount turbo. It will be the one that says build your own rear mount turbo. Tell me what u think is this web true or is it all BS

Lets say you do the rear mount. You will still need to have it tuned and you will still need to upgrade your fuel system. There is no way to get around this. If you try to do it and skip steps you will be also be building a new motor and you will still need to upgrade your fuel system.
You need to do a lot of research before you jump in.

There is some (albeit very little) good info on that site, but a reliable machine it does not describe the making of. A couple of the heavy hitters have already posted up. Look at Zl1killa's thread, search for Zombie's thread, search for longrange4u's thread. These guys will tell you how to do it reliably. Expect to quadruple your projected costs. That is just life in FI.

If you just "slap it on" you are holding a grenade with no pin in the spoon.
We just built an ls1 corvette. It has 189k miles on it, so to be safe we did the following;
Ported ls6 oil pump. (Oil pressure is awesome)
Custom Blower cam. (not mandatory)
New hrdened push rods. (Since different cam)
Rebuilt roller rockers/ new valve springs. (Insurance)
42 lb injectores, racetronix pump, boost a pump
ls6 valley cover, ls6 intake.
C6z clutch, ls2 flywheel.
Long tubes
Procharger, big front mount intercooler
Car made 562 rear wheel. @10.2 psi
Its daily driven on pump gas, and the tune is spot on.
You CANT HAVE (FAST+CHEAP+RELIABLE) so pick 2

Robs c5 vette put down 840hp at the rear wheels and ran 10.2x@14x with a stock ls1/T56 combo on a comp oiless turbo rear mount. He did have a cam in it, but stock bottomed end shortblock.
My brother bought the thing and has been having a blast with it. It's got 115k on the thing!

its not going to cost $1,000 for a turbo build. i thought me was cheap, im currently doing a turbo build and its costing me $4600.00
im Going to Run 8psi on a stock bottom end with a ls6 cam, & 317 heads @ around 500rwhp.
And also your transmission will not hold up to 400+ hp if you got a 4l60e.
The Head Bolts, and head gaskets will not hold up to.
Here my build and what i got already
o3 Hotside Turbo Pipping
o3 Coldside Turbo Pipping
o3 44mm Wastegate
o3 50mm Blow Off Valve
Custom Oil Feed / Drain Kit
o3 76mm TurboCharged
4" Core InterCooler
Stainless Air Filter
Mototron 60Ib Injections
Racetronix Fuel Pump Kit
Auto Meter Sport-Comp II Boost Gauge
Hallman Pro Boost Controller
APR 12 pt Head Studs
Derale HO Single RAD Fan Kit
LS6 Oil Pump
High Capacity Racing Oil Catch Can
UMI Tubular K-Member 2320
LSx Tuner "Jermey from Fasterporms"
Design Engineering Wrap Kit
GM LS6 Head Gasket
Water Pump Gasket
Oil O-Ring
Front Timing Chain Gasket
Fram Extra Oil Filter
and im installing it to, so im saving $1200.00 on labor too

this is also why im reconsidering puting the 317 heads on my car. since im keeping my boost to under 14psi, i don think the drop in CR is needed as much. the only thing that sucks about that is that ill be on my stock 98 heads i do plan on meth later, but im not having my car dependant on it. gotta get that cam!! lol
