69 Camaro build, help me spend some money $$$
Hey guys, I need help making a few decisions to continue my build. Would love your expert opinions.
What I want:
Quick spool, lots of low/midrange power, snappy/responsive. Street car only, so I would sacrifice some high RPM power for quicker spool and more midrange torque. HP goal is kinda irrelevant, but lets just say something like 750rwhp.
What I have so far:
6.0 block .030 over(370ci), Wiseco -3cc, Molnar rods, Stock crank, ARP everywhere, Lunati springs, Comp pushrods
LS6 intake with ported/polished TB
Stock 317 heads (should be approx 9.8cr with -3cc Wisecos)
What I'm considering to buy next (need some help on decisions here):
Comp Cams 226/230 .585/.592 114+2LSA
or TU1 225/225/.581/.581 113LSA
or Other?
CT437879 http://www.compturbo.com/products/ct43billet/ct43_7879
Decision: .96 or 1.15 a/r
.96 would probably spool quicker but would it fall off early and/or cause too much backpressure?
1.15 would make more power, but how much later in RPMs?
Thoughts on other turbos:
TC76 = too small
PT7675 = good but Precision has a lot of turbos blowing up lately
S475 = too big (physical size)
ebay GT45 = ??
Example:
How close would I get to my goal with the Comp cam and CT437879/.96, using E85 with a 2-bar tune (<15psi)?
Or go with 1.15 a/r?
Or go 3-bar tune and more psi?
Note: will be auto 4l80e with something like a yank 3000-3400 stall
Thanks!!

I had the comp 7679 on my 346. I tried both the .96 & 1.15, I did not notice any spool difference I could just pop the throttle in any gear & hit 5 pounds instantly.
the bigger housing did help my performance when I was racing in nasty DA which is what I was after.

Cool..just the kind of feedback I was looking for. I'm guessing the extra displacement of the 6.0 would light up that 7679 even faster than your 346. Even with a 1.15..?

Hey whats up N8. Yeah I almost pulled the trigger on a PT7675 until reading all the trouble people have had with PT recently (both exploding turbos and bad customer service). Whats behind your concerns around the Comp turbine wheels? I've read nothing but great reviews of them..

Ive just saw a few cases where poeple had massive backpressure issues due to Comp's straight cut turbine wheels and letting the customer figure it out instead of them testing. Probably not an issue but similiar to the PT quality issue, you hear a few things and shy away for a bit. I havent had any issues with PT.
Comp can build any turbo combo. I felt the 7679 was not optimal in my case when I race in 8000 plus DA in better air it was a monster.
They let me trade in my 7679, gave me full credit & sent me twin 6265 in trade. I think they have pretty good customer service.

nice car to start with
you doing the work yourself?
I have also had good luck with precision stuff, however I get my turbos rebuilt locally instead of straight from precision. Are you dead set on a NEW turbo or looking for used as well? Its hard to argue with the price of some of the BW units s475's and s480s as well. You have lots of engine bay room and should be able to fit it, theres multiple ways to mount them in the 1st gen camaros as well.
I would still not rule out a decent set of twins, a bit more cost up front, but would perform great for a street driven car, spool faster and would support upping the boost at a later date.

I wouldn't rule out a used turbo, but not sure how a seller could PROVE the quality to me. Also I would LOVE twins if I could keep the costs similar. I don't mind the extra complexity or fabrication. Not a problem.

Twins would make for a nice street set up. I have almost the exact same engine as you with a s475 in a 73 nova. If you do decide to go single don't be scared of the bw 400 series turbos. Sure they are physically huge, but they acually fit nicely where the battery use to sit. and there reliable as a turbo can get. My s475 has a t6 1.10 housing on it. With the tu1 cam it would light off almost instantly but would fall off right around 5700.

I just did a single, and I did go a bit over budget( go figure), so at this point the bit extra to do twins, I wish I would have done it.
I am however very happy with my single, and will probably keep it this way, since upgrading turbo's will be a easy weekend deal now.
