th400/2200 stall/3.x gear/10lbs/comp. cam (forgot specs but it's similar to a 224r)

Car made a measly 480whp on a mustang dyno, 1st pass on 6lbs it went 106mph 1/8th and 137mph on the big end....

5.3/S475 here with a powerglide and stupid tight stall... Boost comes on fast when im moving already, had not even tried messing with the tune for launching or anything, im sure i couldve made it work.

I also had 2.25" cross over pipes and USED the twin scroll. one bank into each side. I liked, what ever this combo goes into next will have the exact same setup, i will change nothing...

well I picked the turbo up friday and took the exhaust housing off just now to measure and from what I can tell the exducer on the turbine is 87mm not 96mm. I plan to trade this turbo for a pt7675 from a member on here. So hopefully he is fine with the 87mm rather than the 96mm. Is there anyway I can tell what a/r the housing is? The part number on the housing is 671696 132 472. The compressor says 063G

The inducer is about 3 mm less and it moves about 100 less hp worth of air.

With the right camshaft and stall that turbo would spool instantly on a 5.3.

Unfortunetly the TU1 isnt the right camshaft.

That's not going to go over well with the natives...

I didnt say it wasnt a good cam. Durationally for an LS with an S400 96mm wheel hotside it leaves EVO on the table.

Bet it works well with the 7675.

You know what my minimum EVO requirements are.... im not giving up 5-8 degrees there.

Your saying the TU1 cam isnt right for which turbo? S472? Or the S475?

I agree.

With a TC76/78 or a 7675 it would be a nice cam.

John is saying that for a 96mm turbine wheel whether it be for a S400SX4-72 or a S400SX4-75 a cam with the EVO event the TU1 has would be leaving a lot of spool time, torque and horsepower on the table.

very knowledgeable guys here. The guy with the 7675 doesnt want to trade anymore since its a 72. So Im just gonna try to sell it and save for a 7675.

Both. Any of the borg warner units with the 96mm/ 1.32 combo.

The TU1 leaves power and response on the table with the events it creates in the exhaust lobe with the bigger turbined turbos. That turbine can handle being pushed way harder than what the TU1 does.

So what off the shelf cam would you suggest for a 96/1.32 bw on a 5.3? I was about to pull the trigger on one for my 5.3 but decided against it due to spool. And yes I really don't know shi* about cam events and how they effect spool etc lol

I have one that might fit the bill from my Elite Series of Camshafts, but I really think you'd be better off with a custom grind to get the events right.

Would you be interested in having me specify a profile for you and have it ground? If you are, my custom grinds are 399.99 which I think you will find is less than most other vendors/shops in the LSX industry. Also there is no hidden 20-25$ "cam spec fee" that is added to the cost of the camshaft just for someone to take the time to spec the cam.

Honestly though on a truck I'd look into the 87mm turbine wheel or the 92mm turbine wheel with a tight AR housing.

I think the 92mm wheel and a .90 AR housing would be ****.

Updates?

I have S400sx (171702) 75mm compressor wheel, 96/88 turbine wheel, T6 1.32 exhaust. Building a forged 370 (slowly), but I thought about throwing it on the current LS6 cammed 4.8.

I'm running exact turbo on a big cam ls1 and makes around 5 psi at 3500rpm but I got gate topping out boost at 8psi till future date when I decide to turn up. Mine also has stock heads. Feels OK at 3500 but like its kicked in *** at 4000 lol.

Worth mentioning is that yours is a T56 and you're still spooling that big turbine wheel by 4000rpm when a lot of people would assume incorrectly that you'd have to be well over 5000rpm to achieve full boost on a turbo with that exhaust wheel.
