Huron Speed A/C Turbo Kit - Next Level 00 Bird Build
You may not know the tale of the "Family Project" Firebird that was completed this year, if so and you are totally bored, here is the build thread: NSTYHBT
Well, Huron Speed has developed a turbo kit so you are able to retain your original a/c set-up. What a choice idea this is! They are currently in the final stages of verification with the kit. So, this is a good excuse to tear into the Bird for the winter even though I only had the car together for one summer season!
Turbos! A concept foreign to me. I have researched and learned alot here and am also getting expert advice from Jon at Huron Speed. His knowledge and willingness to help is worth a million.
I decided to go with an oil-less Comp turbo in my LS2 6.0. So we'll see what happens!
Here is the patient or victim?
Per Jon's advice, I purchased drivers side truck manifold and a C6 Vette manifold for the passenger side. I decided to grind and file some of the casting marks prior to getting them ceramic coated.
Being bored one day, I decided to "gasket match" the manifolds even though it probably won't make much difference seeing that the exhaust ports on the heads are not matched to the gaskets. I found out this little tid-bit of info after I removed the headers.
Vehicle moved to the surgery room
Out with the old - I hate losing those Kooks headers
Filled a few holes on the new radiator support and now painting
A partial goody box arrives just in time

Looking great Jim!
Before everyone asks, I do NOT have an estimated date yet as to when the A/C kit will be available for purchase. I chose to use Jim as a sponsored car and run the initial kit for us and couldn't be happier with the choice!
We are still working everything out on this kit, but it is coming together very smoothly and should have more information later on.
With this, keep your eyes pealed for a new thread from me with information on this kit, and let's keep this thread focused on Jim's gorgeous car and fun build!

Hats off to you you Jon for bringing out this a/c turbo kit and getting it ready for the masses!
Anyway today was just clean-up and paint, install the 60lb injectors, get the map sensor unclipped and ready for the 2 bar sensor and installation of the k-member which was a non-event.

Clean car, can't wait to see the results of the build.
How big of turbo are you planning on running, and what are your horsepower goals?

We are still a ways out on production for this. Again, no idea when or what pricing will be like, but I know it will be nothing like the killer deal on the current Group Purchase!

A small amount of progress today.
Working from the rear forward, mounted the exhaust manifolds, installed crossover brake lines, installed new power steering lines and painted a few things.
I am dreading what comes next ---- cold side piping from the throttle body.
Earlier this year I relocated the fuse blocks and made a close-out and have C6 Vette fogs in place of the drl's. Now some of that real estate will be occupied by the cold pipe. This will take some thinking.

I did the same thing with my fuse panel. Run the pipe to the inside of the frame rail. Worse case scenario you cut the middle of the pipe in the straight section, remove a small length, and use a coupler / v band to put it back together.

The group purchase is $600 off the regular price and if you look through the thread he is giving crazy deals on turbo's and wastgates. I got my turbo for a WAY better price than I have seen them anywhere else... And than you add the cost of the turbo kmember and you're looking at over 1k over the price of the group purchase.
