That sucks dude. I'd definitely go iron this time around. What happened to you is exactly why i didn't bother starting with an LS2.

Guys,

I'm pricing up some block options and I've come across a new LQ9 and a new LY6 block. I'm aware these are Gen3 and Gen4 blocks.

My block is currently a Gen4 block (LS2), but the car was originally a Gen3 (LS1). Just after some pro's and con's between the 2. Are there any strength benefits of the LY6 over the LQ9?

LQ9 Pro's
- Half the price
- Can move knock sensor back to original location

LQ9 Con's
- Might be weaker than LY6??
- Have to drill out a couple of bolt holes??
- Will need to source a different valley cover.
- Will need a Gen3 cam sensor.
- Might not be be able to use the front timing cover from LS2 block?

LY6 Pro's
- Might be stronger than LQ9??
- All bolt-holes line up
- Will be a direct fit swap from a wiring perspective, minimal issue.

LY6 Con's
- Twice the price as LQ9
- LS1 Knock sensors need to be retrofit on the side of the block

Opinions?

Decided to go all-out and get an LSX block. I'll detail the strip-down and rebuild here
