Default My Custom ATI buildup - Update

Just a little update.

Home made ATI setup using a P1-SC, ATI bracked modified by SD-concepts to use their spring tensioner, SD-concept 8 ribs pulleys. SD concepts blower/bracket brace, non intercooled, water/alky injection, currently draw thru and using a mondo bypass. The engine is a stock bottom end with 71,000 miles, mild stage I heads, very small cam, ls6 intake and mac headers. Fuel system is a racetronix pnp pump, CAS regulator and 42# injectors.

Recently I made some headway tuning wise and sealed up a leak from my elbow that goes into the TB and let it rip a bit.

I see 10psi at approx 5000 rpm (where I let off) running 17 degrees advance and getting zero knock. This was a little blast in 3rd gear to 100 mph. Car feels real good. 91 octane California

The SD stuff is great! No installation issues, I am only running a 6 rib belt and very loose tension (I am waiting for them to send me the final crankpulley as I am running their prototype and they will want it back and I only want to take everything apart agian once) thus the use of the 6 rib belt I had slapped on for test purposes to determine the lenght belt I needed. But even with it setup less than optimal belt slip is NOT an issue. I am positive I will see a solid 12psi by 6000 rpm (my redline) once I get the ***** to wind it all the way up.

My next tweak is going to be moving the MAF to the pressure side and venting the bypass to the atmosphere. This will drop my cruise IATS by about 40 degrees according to testing by another member since I will no longer be recirculating all the hot air from the compressor.

Spec III going in in 2 weeks. By the time that is broken in I should be done reconfiguring everything and I will probably hit the dyno soon after that.

So far so good and the part I like the most is I have thousands less into this than buying a base kit from ATI

I switched my bypass and didnt notice much IAT difference. I would guess thats because the bypass is after the intercooler, the intercooler is just getting heated no matter what. The best way to do it on the factory ATI kit would be to put one of those mondo valves right on the pipe after the elbow on the outlet, even so at cruise ny IATs are seldom more then 10 degrees above ambient so I'm not suew how much of a benefit I will see..

Looking forward to seeing your numbers and how the tensioner works out, 10psi @ 5000rpm could be felt I'm sure. Until I find something that works I'm keeping my boost where is at. I would do ATI's 8 rib but 1200.00 + 500 for a balancer seems a little high, it makes the price of the SD tensioner seem a lot more attractive

are you going to throw it on the dyno?

Good job putting it together yourself!

KP-

For me, having no intercoolers, venting the bypass will make a huge difference. I have the mondo sitting right after the outlet of the blower so it will just spit all that unused hot air to the atmosphere instead of recirclutating it back into the blower. I am recirculating now and on a 75 degree day cruise IAT's are 130+ and that sucks. Steve was doing the same thing with his Vortech and his went from 140 at cruise to 90. 90 is much more to my liking

question for you

How does that affect MAF readings? I guess your MAF will be after the blowoff on the pressure side?

I know it will make a big difference on yours and Steve's, but before everyone with the regular ATI kit starts doing it I thought I would mention it doesnt really change anything much except give you that cool BOV sound

Thumbs up

Good job! I have a lot of respect for guys who can put together a forced induction system on their own. It's a lot of work.

very true...

Im still slowly gathering parts for mine... I too give respect to anybody who can build a custom setup, lots of little engineering challenges to tackle

Right on Heath....
Sounds cool, nice to see someone with good PSI not having major slip issues.
