Pretty much. The regulator probably wouldnt cause a restriction. But knowing you have a solid 1/2" line straight to the rails would be peace of mind.

I guess it may simplify or complicate actual installation.

If necessary, I agree. Though my preference would be to see it after the rails, if before and on the feed line, definitely better to feed it off of a T than flow through it as it can still do it's job without being a potential restriction itself.

Also, a bit off topic in terms of this thread but in relation to your build. You seem to be very concerned about heat from the turbo.

While it is in relative close proximity to the intake/rails, I don't think it will be much of an issue at all, if any. I think it would function with no problems at all even without all of your water jacketed heat shields and fuel rails.

This is going in an old Toyota pickup (or am I remembering incorrectly)? Post some pics, I have soft spot for those and have one myself.

Given you have your feed into the rails, and also a crossover up front, It really should be very easy to flow through the rails in the same manner I have.

Change the crossover at the front at one end to a swivel on the run type tee and a single -6 line to the regulator. It's only adding a single line, and will probably make plumbing easier, as you are no longer trying to locate the regulator in-line with the 1/2" feed.

i'm really not to keen on sending fuel back to the tank after being in them rails, i'm real concerned about heat, my last hilux used to heat the fuel up in the tank. I'm not sure if i will gain anything power, or response, or reliability out of doing it. i was going to buy an an10 regulator, that way it will restrict flow less.

I'm not sure that if you opt for a huge regulator...will it have a minimum flow requirement to actually work ?

ie, if it anticipates having to handle say huge volumes of fuel, the outlet orifice might be large and never fully close with this expectation. So if you only pump a small volume of fuel through it....you might never see the desired pressure.

I'm only speculating there, but it's plausible ?

but I understand your concerns. If you use the lift pump, feed the swirl tank, and then the main pump/rails/reg and return back to the main tank. Then you shouldnt have any real issue with fuel temperatures, especially if the main tank is pretty big.
I'm less of a fan of returning rail fuel to the swirl tank, although it is a more common approach, largely because it allows a less adequate lift pump. It is less desirable because it allows hot fuel to get re-circulated within a small loop, with less cool fuel being added from the main tank.
