6-71 blower questions
Hey guys,
I have just about completed fabricating a blower manifold for an LS motor. I have completed a plate that goes between and old Hilborn hat and the blower for 8 fuel injectors. I plan on using this on a 5.3 and using the original ECM and one of the tuning programs. I do have a couple of questions hopefully some one can answer.
- Should I put the intake air temp sensor in the injector plate above the blower or in the manifold?
- Does any one have experience using the ten 6mm intake bolts to hold down the intake manifold or should I plan on drilling and tapping the heads to 5/16 or maybe 3/8?
I still need to weld the seams but here is the manifold so far.

My car was tuned like this by RMCR for over a year without KR. Should the sensor be place after the heat source? Yes.

A roots blower does not compress air, it just moves air. It gets crammed into the plenum which then raises the pressure. Very inefficient but to answer the question I would definitely put it somewhere after the blower

I tried to resize to a lower resolution. Hopefully it's here now. It's up to about $150 in scrap aluminum. I could not afford $1400-1600 for a manifold so I made this. I will be throwing it in the oven and calking all the cracks with the TIG welder tomorrow.

This is a more complete picture. It shows the belt tensioner, Hilborn hat (2 holes blocked) with a TPS setup I made. The injector plate is also there. I still need to order the fuel rail and make stand offs. This stuff will be on a 6 liter either in my 63 Chevy II or a 76 Willis jet hydro. I know this stuff is no where near as efficient as a turbo but some times a guy has to do an "old school" project.

Figured out the blower drive. here is a picture. ATI ballancer to drive with a redrilled blower pulley to match the ballancer. LS3 Vette accesory drive works well. It's stting in the 63 Chevy II. Not sure if it will end up in that or the old jet boat.

I made a block with a bearing and shft that the TPS bolts to. This bolts on the blower hat where the barrel valve used to be for mechanical fuel in jection. There is a linkage from the throttle blades down to the shaft. I know you can buy similar TPS devices off the shelf.

You are my Hero I have been thinking about a similer project on a newer car that I have ever sence I saw the First manifold come on the market (as you said there way to expensive, but coming down) I will be very intrested in how this project comes out. Iactualy saw a 5th gen camaro with a roots blower this summer but I never got close enough to check it out
