i wonder what my friend tightened them down to, i forget if they come with a sheet that says how tight they should be.

the ARPs i have used before the kmjs came out say 40 then 80ftlbs

Ask him, I didnt get a sheet but before I purchased them I spoke to the owner and asked him torque numbers and he said:

I do 60 ft pounds but because I know my torque wrench is accurate so to be safe he says 55 ft. lbs. start of at 25-28 and then 55 or 60 depending on how accurate you think your torque wrench is, but he said DO NOT exceed 60 unless you want a broken stud in your block.

Now questions rise well if im at 55 ft. lbs and pop a HG and know that if I was at 60 it wouldn't happen, well I would rather have a blown HG then to have a snapped stud in my block (been there done that with ARP). Also he said 55 is more then enough.

Then I asked him power limits and he said there isnt a limit that he knows of yet but they are not as strong as arp, but he told me the highest HP number he has seen with these studs torqued at 55 was a twin turbo lq9 that made 1200whp. Im not gonna go that high in HP so KMJ Head studs will do just fine and they have so far.

being on e85 @ 18psi @ 19 degrees of timing and 12.8 afr I got no knock nor did the heads lift, mind you I was giving everyone a ride (4-5 ppl) and all of them came out with dirty pants. One guys face look like this afterwards lol hahaha. I love my 5.3l

The reason it did not pick up power with timing is more then likely the result of severe exhaust back pressure and EGR. Very cool budget project though!

yessir, it made like 380 on 22lbs because it had way to wild of a NA cam and i said to him put a 5.3 in it about 400 times when he was building it, so i think that night he yanked it out and dropped in the 5.3 and look where we are now with a stock cammed 5.3 LOL

I'd love to see the dyno graph on that. I am not expert, but I am betting it reached peak torque really early in the pull. Somewhere around.. 2500RPMs? judging by how quickly those turbos spooled. That's an incredibly amount of torque at a low RPM. It will be scary on the street, and with slicks, be wicked out of the hole.

cool build. Any info on the turbos would be great.
Your builds are always so fun to watch.

How the hell did he run the exhaust? It's gotta be dangerously close to the wheel on a lock to lock turn, no? What are the boost plans and goals? I'm sub'd for track results

it has a tubular K member and goes around that, it is kinda close though.

it made 650whp on 20lbs of boost thru a TH400

its a stock motor with KMJ studs and PAC1218 springs, stock cam and all

it went 11s with 300whp motor in it before, so this should really roll! haha

his goal was to go 9s
