How much hp can dual bosch 044's handle with -08 feed.

hey guys, if one uses a dual pump like the Holley Dominator or say a couple/several pumps like the 044, can you just run a -6 return if you just run off the 1 pump most of the time? I figure the engine would be swallowing most of the fuel at WOT and not much would be going back through the return at that point, and same thing while only one pump is running.
Ive had my dual 044's running all the time for a few years and a -6 return. Never had any issues.
But as you say, even adding a 3rd on load shouldnt pose a problem as the engine will be consuming most of the fuel anyway
