Default Engine temps...good or bad

Finished the vertical rad setup using the following parts:

Griffin - GRI-1-25241-X
Proform - (2) 141-641. 10" - 1000 CFM ea...pushers
Stock t-stat

This is on an LS3 (w/ LQ4 block) motor.
up front TC78

So far 60 degree weather...40 min driving I saw the following temps.

Freeway - 198-201 degrees
Cruising - 203-205 degrees
Stop lights (depending on lenght) 208 degrees

Am I headed in the right direction on keeping this car cool? I'm taking it another setp further and ordering a turbo blanket later today. Your thoughts...suggestions welcome.

Get some better fans in there. I run the deraler fans that a lot of guys use. They do 2100 CFM each. In60 degree weather this past weekend my car stayed around 175-180 cruising and highway.

Also I had the fan you have now at first. My car got hot quick in traffic in 80 degree weather. I had to buy better fans

X2 for the derales. Temps are warm for that ambient temperature.

i think you're close but could use some ducting. your freeway and cruising temps could come down a little but the fans wont help that. make sure your air dam is intact and not all bent to hell and try to fab some ducting so air has to go through the radiator (ie that big open space by the hood latch). as for your stop light temps, if you just park the car running and leave it there, what will the temps go to? if it keeps climbing, need to upgrade the fans, if the fans come on at a reasonable temp and cool it down, no problem.

just for comparison my setup and temps are as follows:
stock radiator (no AC)
stock tstat
dual derale 16925's

hwy: 188-192
cruising around town (40-45mph): 194-196
parked idling: fans come on at 208 and cools to shut off temp of 204 in approximately 1 minute

Thanks again fellas. I will go back to the drawing board. To answer your question Tally TransAm, at idle, the temps seem to stay below 210. Also, both the air dam and splitter are in tact...no issues there at all.

Am I missing something here then? Here's what mine look like. I just sat them on the rad...not how they are hooked up currently. Had to stagger the 10's to get them side by side.

I have my fans (ebay) fans side by side with the flat edges together and cut 1/4" of the fans to fit on the core

My buddy Redrocketz28 was having major temp problems with his old fan setup. They were Ebay fans that flowed "1200cfm" Put the stock fans back onto it, turbo blanket, drilled 160 stat and she is golden now. Still want to make a shroud for the upper support by the hood latch to flow some more air through the radiator

The derale pushers are claimed the baddest fans on the market. IMO they are. Find a way to get them on the car. They move some serious air.

You have a stock t-stat which won't open till 190'ish degrees, so seeing temps just higher than that is perfectly normal considering the engine coolant temp sensor is essentially in the hottest past of the motor, the front of the driver's side head.

Personally, as long as you're not going over 220, I would be worried considering the coolant won't boil till well above 230, maybe 240 depending on mixtures.

I have had pretty good luck with my puller setup using flex a light flx-420's with that rad. If you got the room to run pullers then I'd consider it. It's tight but it fits and I have no issues with temps.

Just make a fan shroud out of a sheet of aluminum and those fans will work fine...your loosing a lot of your cooling efficiency running without one
