Default Ls1 for boost

I have a forged 347ci LS1 just built for nitrous it's 10.9 comp.
Wiseco 3.905" forged flat top -3.2cc piston
Eagle H-beam 6.125" forged rods
TSP MS3 238/242 duration, 603"/609" lift 113 lsa cam
243 cast head milled to 60cc no port work

This engine has less than 700miles on it and I'm thinking about changing over to a turbo set up. If I get a set of 317 heads I can get the comp down to 9.5. I'm trying to figure out if I should boost this engine with 72cc or larger combustion chambers or sell it and start over completely. I'm not looking to rotate the earth but I am looking to make enough reliable power to run low 10's. What do you guys think?

Some 317s, ARP head studs and LS9 head gaskets and you should be good to go.
Oh and maybe a turbo specific cam while your at it.

+1 similar to my build... except for the iron block...

It would be good.
I would change the cam.

What fuel are you planning on running?

I have not thought about fuel yet, I was more concerned with flat top piston and 9.5 comp. with a turbo. Most people I know with boost engines use dished pistons and 8.0-8.5 comp.

E85 and you can run pretty high compression with boost.

My 2012 build in my sig was a bone stock 2001 LQ4 6.0l (9.4 comp ratio). I ran 10.20's @ 133mph all year long at 15psi, 10.8AFR, 17* timing with the 88mm turbo and that was in a heavy 4255lb race weight. Stock short block, stock cam, stock 317s... so on.

Not stock - Regapped the factory rings to .030" and arp rod bolts and head studs, Ls9 head gaskets, 80lb injectors, w2a, 110 race fuel were added.

you will be just fine meeting your goals.

I say, run it as is, cam and all (but do the LS9 Head Gaskets and Studs). You'll get more hp per psi of boost, so you won't have to run as much boost (maybe 16psi instead of 22, for example). That cam is a little big especially with that LSA, but it will spool up your turbo fast and compensate for no port work on the 243s. The LSA will also bleed off your dynamic compression and give you some relief from det. Actually, it may bleed off a lot of dyn comp. (Would be nicer to see 228/232 with that LSA).

Current setup should get you into the low 10's as is (with LS9 Head Gaskets and Studs). I say run it and see how it does. You can always change out the cam later if you aren't happy. I would either run E85 or add Methanol/Water injection to help lower IATs and EGTs.

Would love Martin@Tick to chime in. He's always got some good feedback.

9.5 is not bad.

If you're going to run fuel like E85, run it as is. If you're planning on pump gas, sell your current milled heads, buy stock 243's/799's and enjoy the now 10.1:1 SCR you'll have.

9.4:1 isn't bad, but you can utilize more for sure without issue along with methanol injection/pump gas.

What is the benefit of running the ls9 head gaskets? I'm putting together a similar combo to suit n20/boost.

They are 7 layers. The regular MLS gaskets from Summit for $30 would work just fine too though.

Here is an interesting read. Sometimes the best combos are stuff thrown together that arent exactly right. 11to1+ compression with an 80mm. 1063whp and 8.92 at 159.
