Default 64 Chevelle, 5.3, TC78, E85

Not too exciting. That's why I am going turbo. I've had the car running NA for a little over a year with the best quarter mile time of 13.2 @ 106.

Let me start by saying this is my first turbo car, and i have never welded before, so please feel free to critique and advise. Now for some details...

2001 5.3
HP EFI
Turbonectics TC78 .96
Truck manifold V-banded down and forward
2.25" mild steel hot side
3" down pipe
50 mm BO
45ish mm WG
80# Seimens
255lph pump x 2
E85
Th400
A2A intercooler to follow

I started fabricating this morning. So far the manifolds are clearing everything with the V bands tacked on.

Nice work. You will get better at the welding.

How did you chose that turbo?

I'm gonna borrow my neighbors tig so hopefully I pick it up fairly quick. And the turbo selection was a combination of a few things, Huron speed, budget, physical size, and my power goal should be close to maxing it out with good spool time.

Not yet, I'll stay fairly tight because this is 99% a street car. Probably not a 2 step but you never know.

Worked a little bit more on it until I ran out of wire in my welder, and I'm almost out of gas. I've got about half of it finish welded. Next is the down pipe.

Only parts I still need to order are my wastegate, oil feed and return stuff, aluminum tubing and couplers for the cold side, and maybe a few odds and ends.

Your setup is almost identical to mine. Differences being mine is a 5.7 (but will be getting an L33 soon) with a log manifold on the passenger side due to clearance, 2.5 stainless hot side, T-56 and mine is in a G body. I'd like to see how yours works out!

I got lucky with both manifolds fitting the way I wanted, down and forward. I would have done stainless too, but it would have bumped my budget up a little too much.

Most of the fab is done. Knocked out the down pipe tonight, 3" with no muffler. We will see if its too loud. Eventually it will have a muffler with a cutout and exit point down and towards the rear behind the rear tire. Still need a waste gate to finish. I am debating on the Denmah special, Ebay EMUSA or paying the money for an expensive one. It's not my DD so Ebay may win this one. Enough talk, here are a few photos.

Old nasty exhaust I still need to remove.

Pretty simple, but leaves me at a place where I can continue towards the rear when I am ready.

So I've got it fully welded other than the waste gate to the down pipe. For the waste gate I went with the 46mm Precision. Sorry no pictures yet because the memory card for my camera died. I made and installed my oil feed and return lines, tapped the timing cover for the return and fired it up yesterday. I will have pictures and a video hopefully tonight or tomorrow.

I still need to do my cold side and I have a question, Should I run 3" or 2.5"? The outlet on the turbo is 2.5". I am running non intercooled right now so it will only be about 18" long. Or will it not really matter?
