Intercooler swap gains 168rwhp

INTMD8, what did Precision about the core? have they changed the design? Is it now design for higher pressure applications rather than high flow / low pressure ones?
Evidence yet again that when building / picking an intercooler you really need to spec it not just crab one off the shelf!
Chris.

I don't have any data saved to support what I'm saying because my info came from reading, research, asking questions, and talking to the been there done that guys. I am also a real street class racer so I am only looking at it from that angle. This class is pinning the wastegate shut and running on full turbo. I can't afford to loose psi anywhere. Also one of the class front runners had a treadstone and swapped it out for a Bell and picked up over 100 hp. He has now been 5 teens in the 1/8. I find it hard to believe a CX racing or Treadstone intercooler will take a car close to my set up any where near the almost 4 second zone.

If you're dropping 5-10 psi yeah I can see the benefit but if its 3 or 4 I would probably have to weigh my options. If I'm class racing, then yes, I'm looking for that 0.5 psi drop.

Fwiw they can build one with the 27x12.3x5 core that kicks ***, it's just the off the shelf "825hp" intercooler no longer flows as well as it used to.

i read about this happening on an ATI intercooler once. its kinda the same story as some radiators that dont flow well and the car overheats blah blah blah. swap it out and its fine. they make these things by the 1000's and each one can vary slightly, and sometimes greatly apparently. i try to stress the importance of everyone doing the check pre and post IC but people seem to just assume its ok. glad you guys found some power!

Seeing less than 2 psi drop at upwards of 30lbs(controller spiked and made more than we wanted so I got that data) and seeing around 100 degree drop in intake temps. I have pressure sensor before/after and temp sensor before/after. I have the SMALL 6" tall twin intercooler from treadstone with not great airflow(in the nose of my mustang), rated way lower than I'm running the car at currently. It's been 132mph in the 8th on a slick track(so easy curve with some pedaling) at 3400lbs in a car not setup for the 8th.
The treadstone is fine for 99% of a2a street cars not looking for every last hp out of their setups. I just threw in the 6" one as I got it for a good deal used and planned on a2w later so didn't buy a new one.

Intresting results skinnies! Nice temp drop over the core to, ESP as its only a short one! Be intresting to see what a 9 or even 12 inch high core could do. Might see a little more presure drop but should cool even better. What's the thickness of the core??

I would like to step up to the 9" tall core one to see how much of a difference it makes and/or a bell core. For what I am doing for now, the 6" tall one works fine though.
