Intercooler swap gains 168rwhp
We added a D1SC to a customers M6 4th gen. 408ci, 10.25cr, SI6 cam, afr 205's.
At first we had a Precision "825hp" intercooler on it. Only made 7psi boost and 603rwhp with 22deg timing. Hmmm We tested pressure before the intercooler and it buried a 20psi boost gauge.
Come to find out they changed the supplier for this intercooler core and it would appear they no longer perform as they used to. (we've used this intercooler on 900rwhp builds before).
Switching to a Procharger front mount (no other changes) it now touches 15psi at 7k rpm and made 771rwhp with 18deg timing.
Just thought I would share as I found the results amusing for switching just the intercooler.

Fueling difference wasn't a result of the intercooler swap. That's what target air/fuel was but I didn't bother spending the time to get there with the first IC

Also alot of mis-information going around about the CXracing cores. On the standard universal 31x12x4 with 3" inlets/outlets we saw 3.5psi of back pressure at 20lbs of boost.
I'm sure I could pick up some power with a nicer aftermarket IC. Just not worth it for my application.
My cooler was $125 shipped. For the money spent... it works very well.

Sounds like that first intercooler was faulty though, even a cheapo isnt that bad. The one was broken for sure.
Just noticed who posted this, you know by intercooler very well Jim.

We tried 2 of the Precisions with the same results. That intercooler is no longer sufficient for 800+hp.

though definetly appeared the precision turbo intercooler had problems...that is a huge restriction.....

anyone ever try running one of these engines with no intercooler?when I was testing with my gn every pound of boost created about 10 degrees of heat so if your loosing 5#boost threw the core it has to drop iat temps 50 degrees just to cover the heat ti was responsible for in the first place. just a thought. what about a couple meth nozzles instead.and not give up the restriction in the first place.

I didn't measure the current pressure drop or take any comparison pictures.
