This is not a "74mm" turbo in the classical sense. You're quoting the wrong spec.

By conventional naming this would be a "52mm" turbo (Compressor Inducer). Or also could be called a "52/58" turbo. (Compressor Inducer / Turbine Exducer).

I would suggest avoiding these for your setup based on compressor/turbine size.

Consider the On3 Performance 70mm turbos if you're looking for a budget twin setup:

People have had good results with these.

Thanks.. like I said, I'm a little dumb when it comes to turbos, but I'm learning. Will send these back and order them today. Thanks.

Believe me, we've all been there. Two years ago (not knowing anything about inducer/exducer sizes) I bought a "Super T70 Turbo" on eBay. Turns out it was a 56/58 size turbo... far from a 70mm turbo.

Surprisingly, I talked them into taking it back (unused) in credit (minus 20% restocking fee) towards a 68/77 GT45 that they sell. Sent it back yesterday!

Keep reading as much as you can on here, especially people's build threads and you'll gain a ton of knowledge. Pay special attention to people's experiences with cam choice, fuel system setups, and tuning.

Best of luck!

FWIW-I am shocked the ebay turbo's always come up. I know some success but damn these ON3 70's flat out rock. The absolutely smoke the precision 62's I had. Not even close. I am not sure who has gone the fastest so far using the chinese turbo's but I would have to think that my 3720lb chevelle that has run 6.00@116.85mph has to be at least one of the fastest. I have put these things through the ringer at the drag strip and on the street. I drive an average of 300 miles a week. I take my kids to school and pick them up everyday unless the weather is just absolutley horrible. These turbo's have not missed a beat. They ran awesome on my 5.3 and on my current 6.0.

Hope my experience has helped. A set of the On3 70's as was mentioned with a stock 5.3 will easily net the hp you are looking for.

Dude, your setup rocks, and has proven these On3 turbos work great, especially in a twins setup. Congratulations to you on your success. I've been happy with my 76mm ball bearing On3 in the rear mount setup on mine as well (2 years and no issues so far). If the company that I got the "Super T70" wouldn't have taken back the turbo in exchange/credit for the GT45, I would have been doing twin On3 70's on my 72 Camaro build. Loved your thread, it was an inspiration.

Thanks man. I know you always throw mine out there and I appreciate it. I am always curious to why so many people prefer the GT turbo's. I think the few people who had something go wrong with the On3's have given it a bad wrap. The way I looked at it was for $324 shipped to your door, if one goes bad I will just order a new one. Shoot my precisions were $500 just for a rebuild. Screw that.

I can't wait to see you put that thing in the 5's at 3800lbs. Delbert. Glad that cam I did for you is working well in the new set-up.

For the OP, I'd specify something similar to this for a 5.3 with those turbos:

217/225 112+4

No problem. I love your setup and you've done such a great job documenting it for everyone, myself included. Honestly, I was going to do the same thing in my 72 Camaro, in fact I have a picture of your engine bay on the wall in my garage, HAHA..

If DNAMotoring wouldn't have taken back the tiny "Super T70" turbo I bought from them 2 years ago, back before I knew anything about inducer/exducer sizing, I would have gone with twin On3 70's. The "Super T70" was originally $200 and they gave me $160 in credit towards the GT45 (which was like $245 with free shipping). So essentially, it cost me $85 to get the GT45. I couldn't pass that up, even just to try it out. I'm only looking for 650-700 rwhp, so I hope it can get me there efficiently. If I were going for a 9 second, 1000rwhp car, I wouldn't have done it. Well, I would still have done the trade-up, but would have sold the GT45 or saved it for some other project.

Anyway, I'm so glad to see your success with your setup. I'm pretty happy with my single 76mm ball bearing On3 turbo in my rear mount convertible. Haven't had an issue with it yet... 2 years now! And like you said, if it goes, it's cheaper to just chuck it and get a new one.

The triple 12 cam is a good one...I run it myself. Great for a DD and makes 1000hp when I turn the boost up.

How much power are you looking for, how fast you trying to go? Twin 70mm turbos is a lot of air...

If you are thinking about ebay turbos, look into cxracing. They have a great company and the customer service is awesome. I went through the whole on3 performance ordeal and let me tell you, it was a nightmare, terrible customer service (lawyers involved). Their turbo is known for not being able to hold the oil in the seals. Switched to cx racings 76 ceramic ball bearing and no troubles. The price is very comparable if not cheaper plus you get the added fact of a company that stands behind their product. Well there's my .02. I'm looking at doing twin cx racing gt35 ball bearing turbos with the t4 housing. $450-480 for the ball bearing and 275-300 for the journal bearings. Hope this helps.

231/239 114.5lsa.

I believe Wicked has been 6.0@116 with little boost with his 6.0 and twin turbo's at said weight with the new Holley EFI he has.
