Question SC Advice for Some Basic Research

Here's the story, guys and gals: the N/A 383 stroker is near completion. I've got it built for forced induction (all forged, Stage II H/C, fuel upgrades, 9.7:1 CR, 224/228 - .581/.588 - 114 LSA, 3.29 gears, 3500 converter, etc.). It's a daily driver and I want to run 6-8 psi. The SC is a winter project the end of this year. I've done some of the basic looking and pricing for the SC. I almost certainly will intercool. Now I'd like a little advice on what centrifugal might be the better choice and why. I know that there are lots of quality chargers out there. I'm leaning toward the P-1 because of the self contained feature. Any comments are welcome. TIA.

If you get a procharger get the D1-SC. A friend of mine knows the guy who has been developing ATI's kits from the beginning and that is what he told me to run. He said that the boost comes on stronger with the D1. And you will have more room to grow. Shitty thing is he can't even get a discount over the local shop, who is the cheapest I have found. I tink the belt slippage is only high power and high boost cars. I forgot to ask him today.

ATI D1SC:

More room to grow and its self contained. Two points that were already mentioned here.

Magnacharger:

If its a custom install I would check clearance and look into the Magnacharger. It has more boost at low RPM being a twin screw type of set up.

If belt slippage becomes an issue on either then you can just go to a COG setup.

Either way it sound like you are going to have a kick *** setup. Enjoy

A late model Grand Prix?

Do you want a regular kit or will you be building a custom one? I"m going somewhere with this.

Yeah, John, it's an '01 GTP and is going to be FWD configuration. If there's a kit out there, it would be interesting to check it out. I assumed that I would have to develop and have some fabrication to get it done. There appears to be only one place for the charger, at the flywheel end of the engine, but a similar setup is available for the 3800 in that car. What's on your mind?

An LS1 stroker motor in a grand prix? Sorry, can't help you there.
I'd like to see that setup though. Sounds interesting. You have my attention.

Thanks, Crunch, it's exciting to me too. My question was aimed more at deciding on a short list of centrifugal SC's that suit the stroker than looking to find some kind of kit. PSJ seems to have some kind of idea on this, but I haven't heard back yet. BTW, the car should be on the street N/A around August this year.

Don't let this stop folks from commenting, I need all the help I can get!

Are you familiar with the http://intense-racing.com/ GTP that went 10.3 with a custom turbo setup?

Valvegod@aol.com sells some tranverse LS1 conversion parts did you know that?

I would go with a T or YS Trim Vortech or a turbo.

Right, John, Scott at Intense is one of the big dogs in the 3800 community. His turbo car is the fastest 3800 GP in the land as of now (as you said, 10.3 and getting faster). As a matter of fact, his transaxle (4T65E-HD - 3500 stall, built by Big Jeff) is the one going behind my stroker. It has reliably handled close to 700 hp. http://www.zzperformance.com/zzp/pro...gal_sc_kit.htm has a CSC built (Paxton IIRC) Novi 1000 and 2000 conversion for the 3800 that packages a centrifugal as I have described above (a driveshaft to the "backside" of the engine). I believe Ligenfelter also has a driveshaft configuration available for the Corvette for a positive displacement blower. I saw that on a Z06 last year. I have thoughts about adapting that configuration for a centrifugal for my car. A turbo just seems too much plumbing later since I will have to do a custom exhaust to get the N/A setup running to begin with. But as you know better than most, when you push the limits of a machine, you risk breakage! You pays your nickel and you takes your chance.

My question, as I said above is more about what is the best SC for the stroker LS1 at 6-8 psi. Thanks for the info and research time! I'll talk to Mr. Valvegod and see what he says! I really appreciate the interest!

I'd be leaning towards a Vortech T Trim, they are rated for 825fwhp.

You could go YS/YSi, and just pulley it down.

I might sell my YS to upgrade to a YSi if anyone was interested.

Thanks again, John, I'll look into the Vortech as well. A big help.
