Wouldnt a 6.0 be a bit much for a 7675? I've already agreed to buy a 5.3 so I'm stuck with that to work with. Maybe I should just leave it stock bottom end and shoot for less power out of it...

Could you elaborate on the timing chain failure?

76/75 May not be ideal, but it would still make good power. I’d drop 2005+ pistons/rods in it and run it. (ATSMATT was selling a set for $300 shipped with rings and all)

If you are going through the trouble of a forged motor build a 4” bore engine. Parts are cheaper.

My motor build was a joke really. It was for mockup only, but I ended up running it. (link in sig) Had the original 160k crank gear, random cam gear, and I don’t even know where the timing chain came from at this point. It may have used the original 160k chain now that I think back on it. Had a good 3/8”+ slack in it as well. Ran it all season that way and kept the rpms under 6500. Got a little greedy in the burnout box right before the chain let loose and hit 7100-7200rpm and was rapidly feathering the gas pedal. Setup to launch on the 2 step and the motor blew on the line at 3600rpm on the 2 step.

$220 well spent I say!

Thats what im gonna do.i did the math and i can buy a nice 07-08 6.0l do the arp rod bolts n ebay headstuds , ls7 lifters and fresh hgaskets for less than a set of pistons for the 5.3. Unless its cheaper to bore out the 5.3 to a 5.7 ls1 piston which are cheap..is it as simple as boring the 5.3 out for the 5.7 stock bore pistons ,use 5.3 stock crank, and stock length 5.3 forged rods??? I know walls will be thinner but its a proven deal at this point but ive never read someone say what rods n crank they used when they bored their 5.3 to 5.7. 5.7 Forged pistons are what i consider properly priced around 500-600 a set with pins.

so can someone fill me in, is it as simple as boring to the 5.7 stock bore, use 5.3 forged rods n stock crank? Or gta run 5.7 rods n crank? Sorry if its a stupid question, i never pay attention to ls1 stroke specs etc.

The 5.3 and 5.7 have the same stroke crank and same length rods but like you said the cylinder wall will be very thin by the time you take .118 out of it, the couple people that I have seen do it all sonic checked the block to make sure it had enough meat left. Besides Mahle has a set of forged 5.3 pistons for the 5.3 in the low $600 range, for a stock rod that is.

You don't need ARP rod bolts. OEM are fine for 1000+ Lots of people having great luck with the china Ebay studs for about 60$. use OEM multilayer steel LS9 headgaskets.
