Default Forged 5.3 options

I've got an 04 lm7 that I'd like to build up, and I'm wondering if theres a general concensus on what would be a good choice for pistons and rods. I'm using a pt7675 which should max out around 900hp or so, which is just beyond where I'd be comfortable on the stock bottom end. What would be good choices to be very reliable at this power level in a heavy (probably close to 3800) street driven car?

Wiseco makes their junkyard dog series pistons that I would just mount a reasonable set of rods to and reuse the stock crank. Only if you don't have plans on going higher than 900-950HP. just my .02

Whats your definition of a reasonable set of rods? genIV rods or aftermarket?

Called a shop and for the Wiseco JY dog pistons and callies compstart H beams they wanted $1480, a bit more than id care to spend. Are there cheaper options that'll work or should I just lower my goals to stock internal hp levels lol. I have an 04 LM7 that I'll be using the short block from, what would the stock stuff be safe to? I've seen the 05+ l33 and such are safe to around 750whp, what about the older rods?

Older rods start to bend around 750 flywheel HP. Newer ones have withstood 1000+ HP.

I'm making around 850whp and went 5.66@127mph in the 1/8th and 8.76@156mph in the 1/4 bouncing off the limiter about 100' out with a cam only 05 L33. Gen4 rods and forged pistons should easily max out your PT7675. Hell, Id just sell your LM7 block and get a L33 or something with gen4 rods and give her 25psi on E85.....

Hell I have a brand new set of rods and pistons out of my 2012 LC9 5.3 I'd sell. They literally have one mile on them. I took em out of a set of forged pistons and rods.

Watch out for the JY pistons. You get either 9 or 11:1. Or there about. They have others for use with aftermarket .927 rods that will get 10:1.
I posted a good chart in gen3 tech.

07 will have the better gen 4 rods

Rods are part number CRS6125O3D from Eagle, rated to 750hp lol.

Pistons are K474M965 from Wiseco, mine came with rings, now the catalog shows not coming with rings for the same price. Maybe I got lucky. These are the .020 version. The stock 3.780 bore ones are K474M96.

Plenty of sponsors here can hook you up with good prices.

Maybe im getn old but damn it man 800 for pistons is crazy.ive ran je pistons in almost every bigblock wether bbf or bbc ive built and at the most i paid 700 for a nice set with good pins.i just dont get why someone like speedpro hasnt released a 500 set of forged slugs yet..i can see payin 800 for a set if rods and pistons.thats not horrible and stays affordable which in turn sells more.makes me just keep on runnin stock stuff hard when i know i can just keep a spare longblock ready to go cheaper than forging pistons/rods.i can put my engine on the stand in 30mins or less.we re beginning to et race on sdba dragboat circuit this spring so i was thinkn of buildin our motor forged but looks like ill just carry a spare bullet lol

Nova, did those pistons come with rings and the pin? BTR racing has those for a decent price.

Sounds like another myth to me...

My 2001 5.3 with the "older" rods lasted all season making well over 750 flywheel HP. I did blow it at the end of the year. I really believe that was a combination of timing chain failure and me abusing the motor. Not due to the rods failing.

I've got those in mind. Thoughts? Will these rods be able to re use the stock bearings or should I go ahead and get new ones?

Your really gonna spend $1100+ on pistons and rods? Then add bearings, rings, machine work etc… You could have stock low mileage 2005+ 6.0 and easily make your power goals for half the work.
