Default STS Turbo first run

I ran the car for the first time up in vegas tonight. The car still needs to be dialed in but was pretty happy. The 410 gears have to go I bounced of the rev limiter in 4th clutch slept a little i think Will have spec 3 aboard soon I know excusses but hey. This run was on the 5psi boost with basically a roll launch

60' 2.044
1/4 12.4
mph 116.90

This was the STS Turbo on 5 psi I cant wait to hit the switch and go 10psi boost results to follow,

good time considering your 60', if you had proper traction and power delivery a 116mph should be in the high 11's

Sounds like a good baseline for a bolt on kit!
Keep chiseling away at it and it'll only get faster.

Bret, glad to see you post some times. What decision did you make about the meth system? Did you get it tuned yet?

I'm the guy that helped bret tune his car. His car still has quite a bit more left in it. With a few changes I see his car trapping 120 mph in vegas on 5lbs.

He's running a 67 turbo, not the 60-1 that is standard with the kit. He also has a cam, 224/224 I forget the lift, like .565 i think and a 112 LSA I believe as well. Bret can post the specifics of it. He also has LT headers.

It was around 100 degrees when we were tuning it. I have the timing set so he see's 0 knock and is running an 11.5:1 a/f in 4th gear. The biggest problem we are having with the car right now is that he's out of fuel pump. I have the injectors maxxed out on just 5lbs and we are only able to get to around 6300 rpms before his a/f starts leaning out to around 11.8 and starts going up quickly. His redline is actually around 6700 so there is still some more power left in the car. We'll retune it after he gets a pump installed.

On one of his passes he trapped 116.90 mph with a 12.7 et. He didn't even boost the car in first gear and didn't have the cleanest 2-3 shift.

I believe that his car with a clutch thats not slipping, stock 3.42 gears instead of his 4.10's and a bigger fuel pump will trap 120 on 5 psi. After he gets the alky installed we should be able to run 8 psi which should be worth quite a bit of power.

In 4th gear we were seeing full boost around 3k. The 60-1 turbo that comes with the kit spools rediculously fast, the 67 setup is much better but can't be run without supporting mods such as pump, bigger injectors and a good tune.

I very much reccomend the STS kit to anyone who's looking for a low cost bolt on turbo kit. Only complaint I have with the kit is that the piping is kinda low, but that can be fixed with aftermarket control arms from what i'm told. You also have to have the car tuned. I would not run the stock tune on this setup. I've logged 2 STS cars before tuning them when they were running mostly stock tune and they were both seeing a lot of knock retard.

^^^ which is why I'd like to know the altitude and see the time slip. Down in these parts he should be running mid-low 11s with all that crap installed. What did you run before the 12.4 @ 116? If you gained 1 sec, you're looking at a 100rwhp gain give or take.

Altitude for Vegas is 2200 range(give or take 50 feet), and with how hot it was on Saturday and for him to pull that kind of mph is quite impressive. I'm on my way to doing a turbo myself now.

byarddog, congrads on the runs, your car will only get faster.

With that temp DA was probably 3500 plus. Go to weatherunderground and get the information for that day/time and I'll run the DA for you

Just curious but do those STS kits have an intercooler or anything like that? Or does the intake charge get cooled enough on the way back to the front of the car?

Impressive and encouraging...even with the 4.10 gears this is a high 11 sec car in most parts of the country.

Default Thanks everyone for the replies

Well I quess we will change the gears to 342's if that is the groups choice. install a spec 3 clutch. Also we will be running 8 to 10lbs of boost when Rick and Dave come down to install there methonal kit in september, that is when the www.LVfbody.com invasion is being held in lasvegas rooms are still availible. Its a great time we get our own lanes at the las vegas strip. Rick and Dave are the owners of sts turbo great guys i may add, they also let me sleep at there home while they installed my kit. Looks like we will be cutting the car to make a hole to get a bigger gas pump in. As for my times before the turbo i ran 13.6 at 106 i believe. The cam is a 224/224 567. 567. 112. I have slp ls6 manifold and slp long tube headers.

www.STSTURBO.com contact Rick or Dave

Nice run.

I just got my STS kit for my truck and will be dropping it off this weekend to start the install. I also upgraded the turbo to a GT35 so I'd have plenty of room to grow if I rebuild this motor and add more boost.

I also swapped out to 43lb injectors, 2260/220 .591/.554 116 cam, Meth inj. kit from Alky Control.com etc.

Keep us updated on your progress mate. I am trying to hurry so I can show some of the non believers that the kit does indeed work. Like someone stated though, the pipes do hang a bit low for a lowered F-body.

the pipe is a little low, but I almost never touch it on anything. If you install aftermarket lower control arms that are smaller you can adjust that pipe up a little.
