Default Billet wheel

I'm buying a s480 with race cover and I'm not sure if I Will send any gain from a billet wheel. Will I gain more power at the same psi? Or will it just Spool faster? If it makes more power, how much gain is to be expected?

Billet wheels usually give the turbo 10-15% more power capability. Spool probably won't be affected.

I think the billet S480 is rated at 1300 HP.

Here is a good reference.

ask Jose at Forced Induction, a billet wheel is capable of more power but if it's not matched with the right size turbine it might not be the place to spend the money.

It's going on a 370 for my fox body. I never plan on maxing out the Turbo, so I guess the cast wheel will be great

from what ive read about billet wheels is they dont yield anymore power. They are just less prone to failure vs a cast wheel from the constant heat cycles.

This couldnt be further from the truth when it comes to Forced Inductions turbos.

If the company doesnt push the design of the wheel and just copies the cast wheel in Billet, then of course it wont gain anything. Joses wheels are a completely different design. They have provided a 250 rwhp gain over the cast wheel in an 80mm S400 application.

250 rwhp for less than 500 bucks. Few things in hotrodding have that much bang for your buck.

Truth. I would run Jose's billet 76 before I would run a cast 80

Wow! Thats awesome. I just read an article somewhere talking about billet wheels. I was curious if they made some for a TC66 but stopped looking after I read that. Thanks for the correction. Off hand, do you know if FIs offers a custom billet wheel for a TC66 unit? I have twins with cast wheels.

Turbonetics offers a billet wheel option for about $150 each turbo I believe. That's if you're buying them new though, not sure how much an upgrade would be from cast to billet.

As far as cast vs billet... billet wheels weigh less, so it takes less to move them, which helps spool.

This thread made me do some home work yesterday. I've been reading basically the same thing being said over and over in this thread. I'll be going billet I know that much.
Like Westtexasbuff said, from what I read Turbonetics offers a billet wheel in all their turbos.

I think the biggest advantage comes from the aggressive angles on the billet wheel over the cast

I inquired about a BW S475 from forceinductions. They said if I upgraded too the billet wheel and race cover it who raise the power rating from 1050hp to 1250hp.

Currently the line of FI Billet compressor wheels are only available for the S300( which there is a 66mm version of), the S400, and the Garrett Gt55 based units.
