Smile 4.8 turbo pt88

What do you guys think about putting a precision pt88 on a 4.8l used strictly for drag racing. Will have custom cam ground and ported 862 heads. Running turbo 400 trans with trans brake. Also have single plane intake w edlebrock elbow and 102 tb, 96lb injectors. Looking to run 110 race fuel and a/w intercooler.

Car is 3400lbs race weight. Looking to achieve 8-900rwhp+.

Any suggestions. Thanks

I had one on a stock 5.3 with stock cam
car went 2.0 10.7 @ 143mph
you will def need a tbrake to get it up on the turbo

Why not go with a smaller more efficient turbo? You could make your goals on a much smaller billet wheel and have significantly better spool and be able to build more boost on the line. 800-900 could be done with a billet 72mm.

Otherwise you'll end up being one of those people who play into the myth that turbos don't make torque because of the lag because you picked a 1300+ HP turbo to make 800 hp.

I'm not saying it won't get the job done, because it will. It just isnt ideal.

I was happy with my PT88 combo.

9.0 compression 6.0
stock 241 heads
non intercooled
TH400
PTC 9.5 converter
3.5 gear
28" radials

Went 9.0s on E85 with super conservative timing and spooled super fast.

Yea but you didnt have a 4.8

OP put your ego to the side and step down to a 76mm borg Warner billet with properly sized turbine and AR, it will make 900 no problem

My 5.3 made 954whp through a stalled 80E on 28lbs. Run it.

To hijack just a little... What do you guys think of a Precision 76mm on a 402 in my Silverado? (Specs in sig) Goal of 7-800whp. Basically only street driven.

It will be fine on a heavy street truck below 5500rpm but a much better choice would be a Borg Warner S476R with a 1.10 T6 turbine and 96mm wheel.

I talked with Martin at Tick and have decided to go with a s476r with the cast wheel. Should be able to get around my horsepower goal with the cam we picked out.
