I have a 05 stock 4.8L and with low boost I am running gt45 turbo I am only planning running between 6-8 psi. I am trying to decide which plugs to order I am almost ready to start it. I have searched and seen guys running the ngk BR7EF's but nobody stocks them would like to run a common plug in stock locally.

 

Those NGK's are a good plug and you'll need to go a stage or 2 colder than stock with forced induction.

Call one of the sponsors who deal with forced induction and order a set or get some advice from them...or order those NGK's, gap them properly and you'll be good to go with a few day wait while waiting for them to arrive via shipping.

Most generic stores don't carry plugs needed for what we run unfortunately.

 

I run the BR7EF's and they are stocked all over the place by me. All the advanced autos and autozones carry them. Just gotta get the idiot behind the counter to understand he won't find that plug by asking you "what vehicle is this for?".

 

At your power levels i'd thin TR6's or BR7EF's would be fine at those levels. I'm running b8efs's but planning on pushing 20psi on e85.


advanced auto does carry BR7EF's and if they don't have them in stock they usually can get them next day. Ask for NGK 3346.

I did some more searching and have found others also using the tr6's so I called the local parts store I deal with almost everyday and he has them so I will pick up a set today or tomorrow. Should I gap around 30 and go from there?

Out of the box gap of .040ish is fine with the Tr6s.

 

I ran TR6's and switched to BR7EF's. Just wanted to switch to a non projected tip plug, both were fine. Ill probably go to BR8's this year.

 

The BR7EF is the coldest resistor plug available with a tapered seat. Thats what you'll see used mostly. My AEM didn't like the Non resisted plugs. Some get by just fine with them.

 

hi mate by aem you are meaning boost controller ???? because I am trying to run the ngk heat range 9s which is non resistor !!! my eboost2 controller is tripping out big time overboosting ,spraying water/meth at idle etc trying to figure out how to fix this need to run these plugs near 30psi boost 94mm 427ci !!!cheers

 

Nope, I run the AEM EMS for my main ECU. Can't imagine they would effect a boost controller.

Digging alittle, was just curious. I've been running these TR5 IX for the longest time. Been in since stock and now have had at least 20000 miles on them with about 15000 boosted to no more then 10psi. The gap was alittle rediculous. Not sure why I had them at .045 but it ran but it could explain the boost kinda falling on its face After awhile.



New BKR7E I plan on sticking in it with .032 gap





Old tr5ix guess the plugs look ok. This only one though.

 

Mr. Denmah suggest tr6 gapped at .25 -.30 for low boost applications.He just updated the sloppy wiki with spark plug information. check it out

 

Ok, I've seen alot of people recommend the bkr7 for boost due to having gaskets and a colder range. I'm sticking to 10psi with maybe 12 max (2bar with a 98 pcm)

I thought I had the right 7 plugs but I guess not. I'll be going to the store to pick up some tr6 and be done with it. If I don't like how they run the BR7EF are the same price.

 

I've got TR6 plugs in mine, .025" gap, 14psi so far, no blow out on my 4.8. Getting my hands on some 3346's here soon, and getting the meth kit rolling.
