I have a ptc 10" converter with the upgraded 21 blade stator and low miles for 300..
I would go with a bw 471/83 for you goals with this converter would be low lag for sure..

Them motor I have is an 01. I think I read that the rods aren't as good in the older one or maybe the pin used to attach the piston to the rod was an issue....or maybe both. Re the older ones no good for boost?
The older ones are great for boost. It is the LS1 style rods that are the weak links. In 2004 the 4.8 got the LS2 style rods. They are stronger and can take more boost.

I realize this thread is from the dead, but that's not entirely accurate. I've got a 2004 4.8, may or june production and it's got the smaller rods in it. Was a hugely disappointing surprise.
Seems like it'd have to be a 05 to have the large rods for sure.

Since then I have researched that the later produced 2004 4.8 had the better rods.
