Thanks for the offer on the coverter but I'm a aways away from needing one (not 100% sure on game plan at this point).

The older ones are great for boost. It is the LS1 style rods that are the weak links. In 2004 the 4.8 got the LS2 style rods. They are stronger and can take more boost.

I realize this thread is from the dead, but that's not entirely accurate. I've got a 2004 4.8, may or june production and it's got the smaller rods in it. Was a hugely disappointing surprise.
Seems like it'd have to be a 05 to have the large rods for sure.

Since then I have researched that the later produced 2004 4.8 had the better rods.
