Default Tick Performance Stage 1 Blower Cam results

I thought I would make a thread showing two cars we have done in house now with our Stage 1 LS3 Blower Cam. Both have D1SC superchargers, long tube headers, stock h-pipe and stock exhaust.

Specs on the Stage 1 LS3 camshaft are 223/239 .617/.621 115+6. This camshaft has 1 degree of valve overlap@.050 which gives just enough overlap for a great lope at idle. Most think you need copious amounts of overlap to achieve a lope/chop at idle, but you don't.

This camshaft pulls 48-50kpa at idle which translates into great driving manners. This is a cam you can creep across the parking lot in 1st gear at 5mph with no bucking or surging. 50mph in 6th gear? No problem.

I've found that supercharged street cams also do not need a lot of valve overlap to perform well. When you have the amount of pressure differential present during overlap that a S/C engine has, you do not need to have both valves open together for long periods of time. This combined with an early exhaust valve opening event provides a large power gain from stock.

Here are a few examples of what you can expect with our LS3 Stage 1 Blower Camshaft.

This 5th gen has the aforementioned D1SC supercharger with a 4.38" pulley which provides 9psi of boost. With SW 1x7/8" long tube headers, Stage 1 LS3 Blower cam, BTR .660" springs, Comp 7.400" 5/16" .080" push rods, high flow cats, factory h-pipe, factory resonators and factory mufflers it made the below power numbers:



9psi(4.38 pulley) with 14-16* timing at peak torque 17* timing at peak hp(verified by plugs BR7EF)


Again, this 5th gen has the same aforementioned D1SC with 4.25" pulley(10.5psi), Kooks 1x7/8" long tube headers, Stage 1 LS3 Blower cam, BTR .660" springs, Comp 7.400" 5/16" .080" push rods, high flow cats, factory h-pipe, factory resonators and factory mufflers made the below power numbers:



10.5psi(4.25 pulley) with 16-18* timing at peak torque and 19* timing up top(methanol injection in use on this vehicle and timing verified by plugs B8EFS)

Final graph I want to show you guys. This graph shows the gains from 11.5psi(stock cam) with the D1SC, Kooks 1x7/8" long tubes, high flow cats, stock h-pipe, resonators and mufflers(Run 10), to adding meth injection(Run 8) to finally adding the Stage 1 Blower Cam(Run 20). Note that the Stage 1 cam dropped boost to roughly 10.5psi from 11.5psi with the stock camshaft. Here are the 3 runs:




This cam will also work great in a C6 or any LS3 headed engine. Any questions feel free to ask!

very nice!!... 700 is my goal if i do a procharger as well... what's the static comp ratio on the car? if i bit the bullet on a procharger i'l be looking for one of your blower cams as well... static will be 10.5 with a .060 gasket so i'm thinking 7-8 psi?

I have a 6.0 with LS3 heads, intake-heads are set up for around .660 lift
I have an old Pat. Perf. cam, 225/229, .580/.590 on a 114+4
D1SC-i run around 12 lbs
I pull down 14"'s of vac., 49KPA, power brakes work good
I wonder if that cam would add much improvement

10.7:1 is static compression on a stock LS3 engine.

700 will be a walk in the park for your engine. We advertise and guarantee a 175rwhp gain with our installed and tuned blower packages. That is on a stock vehicle as well.

I'd expect no less of a gain on a vehicle that's already modified, especially one with a stroker engine.

With good tuning and a dual methanol injection set-up that has the largest nozzles on it you can get more boost out of it than that.

I try to tell guys not to focus on boost numbers too much. Yes they're important, but they are not the end all be all when it comes to how much cylinder pressure is being generated.

Great!!! thanks for the info... i'm not sure about meth though for the procharger... i want to be able to do a track day once i get everything ironed out... still need the cs 8.8 and kw coil overs plus wheels and rubber... i just dont want to worry about running out of meth on the track so hopefully there is a good air to air inter cooler solution

I will admit I'm not up to date on the highest hp CTS-V's with stock superchargers.

I would think 740-750rwhp would be pretty doable as I've seen that done before.

On my old turbo I would take it to the track 2 times a week during the warm months. I'd make at least 6-7 passes a night. That's 12-14 a week. WOT passes. I'd drive it around on the street a lot too.

That 1 gallon tank with 3 nozzles would last nearly 2-3 weeks.

A 3 gallon tank would last for a month easy.

I know I could benefit from going to a custom cam specc'd for a centri blower, but I'm not sure how much of a gain it would be for me, but these are killer results. It definitely has me second guessing.

Those numbers sound great to me.. I just don't want worry about ptv clearance. My only worry. Shoot me a pm and or email and we can get this situated.. I do want try get package deal.. pulleys acai. Heat exchanger.. cam/springs/pr..meth inj.. Inj.. 102tb.. ported snout. The main goodies

at 2.54 miles road Atlanta is about 10 1/4 mile passes a lap so a 20 lap session would need a tank that would last the equivalent of 200 passes if a 1 gallon only lasts 2-3 weeks at 14 passes a week that's not enough to use it for my application... i would need at least a 5 gallon tank and i don't want to take up all my trunk space

I missed this post yesterday.

It would be a large improvement IMO.

Valve events @.050" for your camshaft:
2.5 intake valve open
42.5 intake valve close
52.5 exhaust valve open
-3.5 exhaust valve close

Valve events @.050 for our Stage 1 LS3 camshaft:
2.5 intake valve open
40.5 intake valve close
60.5 exhaust valve open
-1.5 exhaust valve close

I feel that the earlier exhaust valve open event will benefit you greatly over your current camshaft and that the added 2 degrees of overlap will boost the torque numbers from 4000-5500rpm.

I was spraying 3 times the amount of methanol most people do with mild set-ups.

When I say 2-3 weeks, I mean there was still 1/4 of the tank left when I filled it up and I probably put at least 200-300 miles on the car in that amount of time. At least 1-1.5 tanks of gas which I got about 220-240 miles per tank.

I HIGHLY doubt you can even use up the contents of a 1 gallon tank in a 20 lap session as you will not be at full boost the entire time.

Highly doubt it.

Great!! thanks for clarifying Martin... that gives me hope for more power now ... putting a small 1 gallon tank in the trunk is no prob at all...so with the meth setup and 10.5 i'm definitely looking at an easy 700rwhp from 10-12 psi and one of your blower cams sounds awesome now to start saving

Martin, how would this cam work in a 402ci with cathedral heads? Do cathedral heads need more intake duration and less exhaust vs a rectangular head? Would a 226/238 117 work well ? Looking for something similar with zero to know overlap.

You would need a different cam grind for your combination to be optimal.

A cathedral port needing more or less intake duration and/or more or less exhaust duration will be 100% application specific.

Can you give me a run down of your combination?

Compression-
Cylinder head-
Valve diameter-
port volume-
intake manifold-
headers-
trans-
converter/clutch-
rear gear-
vehicle weight-
blower being utilized and boost-

This will help give me a better idea what you have.
