Realistically how much oil should a turbo motor go through between changes?
I have an LS6 block 383 and just had the oil changed a couple of weeks ago and I am already down to 1 - 1/2 quarts low. I know turbo motors are going to use fluids more so than stockish built motors but is this normal? Should I be worried? I don't see any smoke or obviously leaks anywhere. I also needed about a liter of water this morning. My oil isn't milky or anything and no apparent leaks there either.

Honestly I am not sure. I had a local shop do the install and they have done 100s of LS1 turbo cars so I know they know what they are doing. It has a catch can and I know one line goes somewhere towards the back of the intake and the other I can't remember but that was done before they installed the turbo kit.

A little oil is fine. How long between oil change intervals? My 03 gmc truck with 157000 miles burns about a quarts every 5,000 miles. Motor with more blowby will burn more oil. Turbo motors have more blow by because of the higher cylinder pressures. My t/a in my sig puts a few ounces into the catch can about 1,000-1,500 miles. To the above guys that said they use none, do you have a catch can? If so, is it empty all the time? Every motor that has a catch can will use a little, if not, then get rid of the catch can, no need for it.

So jackass, do you ever empty your catch can? Every motor uses a little oil, some it's so small it's not measurable, others it is. Bmw said up to a quart every 1,000 miles was acceptable. Mb says a quarts every 3,000 is ok on our Amg vehicles. If you think every motor uses no oil then you guys are f-ing ratards. A Fi or nitrous motor has bigger rings gaps, bigger ring gaps mean more blow by, more blow by means more oils consumption. If you don't have bigger rings gaps then you aren't pushing it hard at all. Get a life guys.

Thanks for the reply so far. I definitely do not have a hose running from my catch can to my valve cover buy I do have an open piece coming off of my valve cover that looks like it should have a hose on it and is just open into the engine bay. As far as miles go I have driven maybe a few hundred.
I did have an issue when I first got the car back where the alternator pulley was not right and it slung a belt and over heated before I knew what happened and could shut it down. I wonder if these are related?
