Default Cam Specs?

I'm building a 5.3 with a gt45 with 799 heads and ls6 intake. Only going to run 10-12psi. I was going to run a ls6 cam but a good deal on another cam. will this cam work and produce more power then the ls6 cam. And work as a good boost cam? Thanks

224/228 int/exh @ 0.05" duration
0.581" / 0.588" int/exh lift
115 LSA

It will make more power than an LS6. It is on Xe-R lobes and they are VERY aggressive ramps and not all that friendly on boost. IF you do choose to run it... I suggest a VERY good valve spring such as the BTR Platinum Duals. You will need that much spring to keep the valvetrain under control and stable. Install the cam on a 111 intake centerline

Here is the cam card. Is it what you thought. I don't know much about cams. I need springs anyway. So buying btr is not a problem. I'm doing a budget build. Got the cam for around $150. Didn't want to buy a $400 spec cam. But don't want to run this if it's going to be bad or hurt.

Yup... good ole Xe-R lobes...

Like i said... itll work as long as you put a GOOD valve spring on it... a 1218 isnt going to keep that cam stable in a boosted application.

Reality of it is... that lobe is much too aggressive for a boosted app and I'd never suggest or grind a cam using those lobes.... but its what you got and with a good spring it will be ok at Moderate boost levels.

Depends on what your pressures look like.

I ran almost the identical cam with those lobes and I couldn't stand the valve train noise and low vacuum. It did make 587rwhp in an L33 at 12-13psi with an mpt70. I had the dual golds with 155lbs on the seat.

love that power but I think I will sell it and break down and get a cam from liljohn

Curious as to what you consider a boost friendly lobe and why?

Ones that don't cause valve float once the boost comes on.... because they dont float the valves....

Reality of it is... the faster the ramp rate of the lobe... the higher the directional velocities of the valve are. People like to think that the pressures in the cylinder are equal from the backside to the front side of the valve... and thats just not the case.... The more spring you use keeping the mass of the valve under control.... the less spring you have to use to counteract the effects of the positive manifold and exhaust port pressures acting on said valve...

Plus... Just because you can open a valve quick and fast... Doesn't mean you should.... Theres ALOT of torque that can be found in what you do with the exhaust valve opening ramp....
