Idea's for fun *** street car or truck.
I've had enough with this f'''ing race car, class racing bullshit.
Been at it since 03-04 and after 3 broke motors all sorts of other broken ****, its time for a break. Was planing on going to Dragweek this year. Well on Saturday that is. But was unable to get the parts to finish up the new motor. 440 inch ls next, callies ultra billet, olivers, WCCH'S All pro's blah, blah blah. Goal was frist 8 second average N/A LS. Just cant seem to get them. Wanting on a cam shaft that never showed up.
Enough of that. Anyone who's been involved with class racing knows all about it.
I want to build a fun *** street car now. Nothing stuip crazy maybe 650-700whp.
I want to hear EVERYONE'S opinion. What would you build?
Im looking for a tire boiler. Something that I can pull up to corvettes on the interstate at 80 and just boil the tires off. Dont care for a second now fast it is. Well maybe a little.LOL 160-170 mph down the highway.
Its got to be a ls something got a **** load of stuff worth blowing up.
Going to start with a aluminum 5.3 SBE. 853 heads ls6 intake, 75mm t.b. bunch of junk.lol.
I guess my question is what turbo(s). S475, 20g's, gt 35's, tc76, **** maybe just ebay gt45? What does everyone think will make it the most fun on the street? Would love to just stay single. will go in my 99 firebird for now, but am real leaning towards buying a 1990 something rusty chevy pickup.
Thanks ahead
Dave

I would find a cheap Camaro shell, preferrably with a 6spd trans for highway rolls, throw that 5.3 in there with an S475 on lower boost to get to your HP number with room to grow and get it as light as possible.
That is if you want an original LS based vehicle. That way it will handle and stop well at those speeds and fairly aero dynamic.

It all boils down to weight and finding someone else's roller with all the hard stuff done. 3000lbs or less race weight would be a must IMO. Could squeak by with a Toyota/Nissan pickup if you wanted a truck. S10's are a bit on the heavy side and your better off with a mustang IMO. (aftermarket is huge and cheap) Seems like caged-out mustang rollers are very common and unfortunately the lightest race chassis's around that are plentiful.(within 500 miles of me anyway)
My rx7 was 3k and weighs 2850 with me in it gassed up and ready to go. $220 5.3 with a single S475 and e85 took me into the 8's. That was with a 100$ zr1 cam, 317 heads, dished pistons(8.6:1 CR), 3.10 gears, 28" tire and a stock gear set/case glide. Car cruised great on the highway and managed 18ish mpg at cruise. Had less than 10k in it total. The motor let go at the end of the year and for under $1000 (spent more than I needed to) I was ready to race after winter.

Single t76 with a .96 hot side. Will light off fast on the hwy. With that and highway pulls it should light the tires up real fast. As far as chassis, I would grab a beater and slap your combo in it. A real shitbox is what I would look for. That way if you get a door ding who cares. Just beat the hell out of it and move the setup to the next car. I vote 80 white trash joe dirt style camaro.

Turbo LSx in anything light is the way to go. Rx7, 240, fox body.
I really think the best street cruisers are classic muscle cars with modern drivetrains. As bad as I want a C6Z, i think i'd take a 67 camaro/firebird with a turbo lsx over the vette. Some of the older classic's are pretty light too.

For the shell, something light and rwd, thats it.
I would do a 10.5:1 365-370, LSA Heads, LS3 Intake, twin PT6262CEAs, TR6060, a built rear, and dual fuel, 87 in the tank and E86/98/100 or C/Q16 in a small tank activated by boost.

Problem with most light RWD drive cars is the factory parts can't handle the power. Same with "**** boxes". There is no way to cheaply put 750whp into a "stock" chassis and have it stay together. I'm all for Being as cheap as possible, but I don't want to be broken down on the side of the road every time I take the car out. You NEED a solid rear end, transmission, converter, ECU, fuel system, and frame at minimum. The lighter it is, the easier on parts it will be. Sub 3000lb is where stock powerglides will live at the power levels your talking about.
Easiest way by far to meet all the requirements is buying EX "Drag" rollers IMO.
Something like a DIY blow through pinto with an 8.8 rearend and a glide... The turbo mounting and exhaust setup below would be mandatory!

Another agreement for a former drag car being the 'cheaper' route to go.
Forced induction cars need good fuel systems to live...that's another cost to consider in addition to those mentioned by Forcefed86. Count on $1500-$2k there.

How about a 3300 pound...truck with a huge big block? Low 11's with the AC on. May not be LS powered but it sure is fun giving the rice burner racing set a smack down with a 46 year old truck!
