pt 88 turbo shaft play already
i have 110 street miles, some dyno pulls ,and the old owner ran two passes at the track. i am already getting shaft play. turbo was rebuilt right before i got it. great product pt. so whats a GOOD turbo that will make the same or more power than my 88. i made 798 on 14.4 lb boot on a 370 ci. im pretty pissed off you would think a product would last a little longer. i called them and they said just let us know if you want us to look at it... lol yea

Big surprise here.......not
Yeah send it back to precision, it will for sure be blamed on user error and cost 500+
Or you can send it to that other shop that everyone sends their pt turbos to and they will fix it right. Can't think of the shops name atm but I've read on several occasions of pt's failed attempts at warranty repairs and when the person finally sends it off to the other shop it works like it should without issue. Installed the same exact way as before

Would calling Precision and telling them about all the failures do anything? I mean I would hate to put my PT88 on and have an issue. On the other hand I have heard this story before about Precisions (not necessarily PT88's) failing yet PLENTY of local people run Precision turbos for long periods of time.

This thread keeps coming up, probably because new people get into the sport. I remember this from the 90's........and after a rebuild and it going bad again, another company said, "oh that was doomed to fail" "It should have never been built".....
I have passed on seemingly good deals on their turbos, because I d rather have anything else. Funny thing is , they always blame something else....kinda like your local transmission shop....lol....but in all the years, and all the turbos.....and all the builds.....I have never had it happen again. Hmmmm

I'm in the same boat man. I've got a pair of 6766's waiting to go on myself. I don't even want to sell them to anyone on the chance one or both of them grenades. I wonder what precision's restocking fee is lol

Not saying it's not Precision's QC but what size feed & drain is being ran, & what does the drain look like? I've personally only known 1 friend that had something like that happen & It ended up being the crappy used scavenge pump. The fab shop that built the kit sold it to him & said it was new. It was 7 years old he found out, when he called the company that made it to order new gears.

4an feed line.. 10 an oil return, the are both unrestricted ,they ask what i had i told them they said it was all correct on the oiling part.they are going to look at it for free and see what happened. if it is the same prob as last time sounds like the may just take care of it.

Yeah my comment about the 6766 is based on the feedback from my Supra buddies and some other imports. I live down the block from one of the most reputable Supra based shops in the north east so whenever I get a chance I head down there and shoot the **** with the owner.
He said that as of the last year 2 7175's have failed which isnt a bad statistic but just noting that there were 2 failures. But more commonly is the failure on the ever popular 6766 for the 2JZ. One of my buddies finished his build and had premature failure but was fortunate enough that the distributor was responsible and worked it out with him. Others have had failures (not sure of what the statistic is) but all of them with premature damage. Again, coming from a VERY reputable shop so they know the proper installation of these.
