Default My 00 SS #3349 version 2.0

Ok so as some of you remember I built this car a few months back here->http://www.horsepowerjunkies.com/for...d.php?t=146264. Well I got it together drove it around together and got bored with it rather quickly....So I decided I would try my hand at one of those "sloppy" builds that I have seen for the past couple of years and sell all my old stuff to help fund the project.

Step one was to acquire a 5.3, scored an lm7 locally with 110xxx:

I cleaned up the block and painted it:

Installed china studs, had a tick cam ground, ls7 lifters, 241 heads with prc .650's ls1 head gaskets, ls1 pan and a -10 drain bung

I got the hotside from LSnext down in GA:

Painted the truck manifolds:

I will probably clean up the merge before final assembly:

Picked up an on3 7665...(I know, I know it's small and will have bp issues yada yada but I have it and am going to use it at this point until I can get something with an appropriately sized exhaust wheel)

Next was to pull the old motor setup out of the car so hood off cowl off and out to the back garage:

Got the old motor stripped down:

Then took some mock up pics to check fitment while I still had a motor in:

During which time Justin(fbodynub) came over and wrapped up the hotside. Then once the motor was in I put everything back on to see what else I needed to buy and what needed to be modified to fit:

And that is how the car currently sits^. Haven't had time to really mess with it this week nor the motivation to pull the hotside and charge piping back off of it to install gaskets, bolt torque converter up, install balancer etc but I might get to work on it tomorrow and will continue to update as progress is made.

I may be wrong but the turbo to me looks low. THis may require a pump to return oil to the pan. SOmething to investigate.
ON another note, my brother swears that beer is one of the best he has drank.

It does look low but it sits about 3" higher then where the drain bung is. I will check clearances before it gets put back together.

Looks good Greg!

As long as there is fall and it doesn't go back up before it goes down it will be fine.

Ok, haven't kept up with this but did make some progress since the last update. I pulled the hotside again, finished bolting up the front of the motor and put gaskets on everything then reinstalled the hotside. I also ran the feed and return lines only to find that I needed to re route the drain and buy a couple more fittings to clear heat/drain properly.

Then I received the remaining couplers to finish the charge piping and I got that routed. I still need to get the bov flange welded on and cut/modify the piping but so far so good.

Well I haven't updated here in a while but I did make a decent amount of progress on the car. It is mostly back together now and it runs after a number of issues, biggest one being that I was given the wrong map sensor at the parts counter and I didn't really think that I needed to double check it because I gave them the correct part number but oh well. So it idles and everything appears to be in good working order. There are small bugs to fix and redo but overall it was successful. Now I have decided to make a couple of changes as well as my work schedule has shifted and the car will be going to the track seldomly as it is a street car first and foremost. First, I picked up a tc76 for a steal as I have more faith in that turbo lasting longer then my motor and it just overall having a better track record for reliability. Second, I will be pulling the th400 to install a built t56 which I know is not optimal but will allow me to actually drive the car more because in the area that I live in, in order to get anywhere it is all highway and due to this and my previous gear/trans combo the car sat a ton more then I would have liked it to. I am also moving the drain to the timing cover when I swap turbo's because it is not adequately draining from the housing as it is too far of a length and is snaked around the kmember. I also picked up a vfn hood, a magnafuel boost referenced regulator, going to try out the racetronix 340 pump with the hot wire and move the regulator to the return side. The deeper I get into this build, the less I care about racing it at the track so it is kind if changing directions towards the goal of just being a fun streetcar that I can beat the crap out of when I have time off. If it makes 650whp to the tire and runs 10.80's at 130+ and I can drive it anywhere, I will be happy. More to come later.

Well not that anyone is following along but it runs and drives. Going to be working on the tune once the weather gets better.

3.73, not ideal but I think it will work with what I have now and give me options if I decide I want to do anything else with the car.

I think 3.50 is the tallest you can go with that rear. That would be more better
