Default Cat or no cat? Magnaflow 59920

I'm trying to decide if I want to add a hi flow cat to my exhaust setup. after driving around I reek of exhaust and even to the point when my eyes will burn on extended drives.

My exhaust is 3" turbo back with only a magnaflow straight through muffler (14419 - http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mpe-14419/overview/)

I recently had my car tuned, 608/526 at 8psi and full boost around 3k. I love the power and response, but would like to have a reduction in the smell.

I have a magnaflow 3.5" cat (59920 - http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mpe-59920/overview/) but was curious if I would suffer a considerable drop in power and response. it's 3.5" because i'm thinking of stepping the entire exhaust from 3" to 3.5". for now, I have a pair of 3-3.5" reducers until I step up completely to 3.5"

does anyone have any experience with this particular converter? Any thoughts on what impact this would have?

Thanks,
Avery

You would want to call them and ask the cell count. Less cells... Less restriction. You could also do an electric cutout precat and open it when racing

There is no reason you should stink that bad if you have a full exhaust out the back?

yeah i'll have to call, there are no cell counts listed on their pages. I have a manual cutout already and am thinking of replacing it. Too damn loud

not sure how, but it happens. only thing else I can think of is an exhaust leak, but I've double checked every weld and vband connection.

Is there a hole in the back of the car somewhere? The air back there could be swirling around behind the car and coming in somewhere...

If the thing stinks, you have a problem that needs fixed.

Whether it's the exhaust install or tuning.

The problem is 100% nothing to do with having no cats.

My car has no cats, just a resonator and muffler out the back and I don't stink like gas... I've never noticed the smell of gas in fact... Not an LS though, yet

i have the 3inch version of the magnaflow cat and it greatly reduced the gas fumes. Even though im not turboed, but i haven't notice any significant loss in power.

I've had problems in a couple of my 240s with exhaust smells coming in the car. I don't know if it is the shape of the car or what. I went as far as going to a cam with less overlap and adding dual MagnaFlow 59959 cats on mine. I have no problem now. You may want to look at the tune as well.
