Question what pistons to use

I was just wondering what brand pistons everyone is using for their forged set ups. I am thinking either Ross, JE, or Diamond. I am also wondering which rods you guys are running. I plan on pushing this motor pretty hard. Lot of boost and nitrous.

thanks for your help

In our opinion, Diamond Pistons are quality pieces that set the standard for other piston companies to follow. We recommend them to everyone and use them in every engine that we build in house that needs a piston to handle over 700HP (including our 8 second 3550# Challenger w/ 1300+ HP).
Chris was always helpful in piston selection and answering any technical questions that Scott had. Diamond is a great company that puts their all into making a great product and they take pride in their workmanship and taking care of their customers. So call Chris @ AP-Engineering and he'll get you in the right direction with the best piston money can buy.

I was reading Corky Bell's Supercharged! book last night and he went through piston selection. I found the difference between hypertunetic(sp?) and forged pistons very interesting. He mentioned that forged piston have a greater heat expansion rate than the cast aluminum pistons. This means you'll need a larger gap between the cylinder wall and the piston. He says that engine life can be shortened because of cold starts and this larger gap can cause damage to the piston and/or cylinder wall when no oil is present.

Is this just the nature of the beats or have the LS1 engine builders found a way around this? Would a forged piston neccessitate a different kind of engine oil? Has anyone every sprayed their pistons with oil to help cool them down?

From what I understand the main difference between LS1/LS6 is the LS6 has deeper oil windages . . .
