Default Major ground clearance problems with incon install

I finally got the full kit installed, started the car up a couple days ago and had no leaks or anything, scavenge pump worked fine, no funny noises or anything so I thought it as loooking good. I finished the re-assembly of the car tonight and pulled it out of the garage. I was shocked when the exhaust scraped in three spots just pulling out of my garage.

It looks ilke the k-member has the engine tilted slightly back, causing everything to get lower as you go back to the cat back. It is so low I can't even drive it. My car has the SLP Bilstein package too, but it doesn't lower the front that much from stock (10 mm maybe). It definitely seems to be something in the angle of the engine assy (ehich translates into the manifolds, downpipes, etc).

So I am thinking about a new y-pipe (the cutouts are defintiely the lowest). But I was wondering if anyone else has ground clearance issues with their incons?

-Geoff

p.s. kit may be for sale soon - pm me if interesed.

It's a little lower than stock, but not that much. Most of it, I believe, is in the 2.5 inch y-pipe. A lowered car could be a problem. The sumps for the oil system were low when I got it, but I bent those up so they would be higher than the dump flanges.

My Y-pipe is up so high that I had to make a little bumper of RTV to stop it from wacking the bottom of the car. Even so, the exhaust hits first.

I really don't want to swap the k-members again. Especially with no guarantee that it will fix the problem. Worse case is that the stocker goes back in (but I don't want to do that either). I think the BMR is the only one that will run an incon without modifications anyways. It looks like the motor is raised too high which causes everything to "run downhill" towards the back of the car.

I am going to try shimming the trans mount up to get the angle back, but I already have clearance issues with the pass side turbo relative to the floorpan. If that doesn't work, I think the kit might be coming out. This is a daily driver car, and I can't sacrifice that much ground clearance especially with the poor road quality here in Michigan.

I just played with the alignment to get it a little closer and it gained me a little bit of ground clearance. The toe is way off, but the tires are relatively vertical now. I have a whopping 1.8 inches of clearance to the passenger side cast downpipe. Is this normal?

I am not sure that having a new Y-pipe welded would even help me with this. Is the exhaust flange on the passenger side down pipe an incon-only custom part? I think If I had a new y-pipe and it started at the pass. side turbo I could gain a couple inches back.

I just measured my passenger side cast downpipe and its 4.5" from the ground. I actually hit things all the time with it that high. So yours is sitting way lower. Remember if you have a stock k-member and the incon kit thats about 100 lb more in the front of the car. That going to be an easy 1-1.5" lower than stock with all stock components. If you had something like a hal drag shock its going to sit even lower. I don't see how the engine is going to tilted very much hooked to the transmission and crossmember.

I have hal shocks and stock springs and PA k-member/a-arms. I had to put about 1.5 inches of extra preload onto the spring to get the ride height about like stock.

I will try to measure mine today. I have the BMR k-member with the Incon. The front is lowered by adjusting the spring perch height on the Hals...the rear, I removed the spring isolators and did the heater hose mod. This is all with stock springs. I'll measure my fender/tire gaps for comparison.

That would be great, thanks.

I just measured my car's pass side, it's 4" - but then noticed I only have 20lbs in front tire so I expect it to be 5 - 5.5" once the tires are inflated.

my car is bone stock front suspension, the tires are 275 45 17s bfg kd's.

I'll get the tire inflated and let u know if it's outside that range.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
inflated the tire.
It's not much better, looks to be 4 - 4.5".
the incon otr Y pipe tucks up nicely and is not an issue.
