Default 4l80e guys

I am having a hard time picking a converter for my 4l80e going behind a turbo 370 making ~800rwhp. Mostly a driver not track car but will see some abuse. If I was running a th400 I would just get a PTC. Any thoughts or opinions would help, I have been searching for quite some time on many forums.

PTC, FTI, Circle D, Jakes

FWIW I'm using a Yank PY3400. I'm very happy with it and don't forsee the need to change it at this time.

From what the internet says, OD and WOT are a bad combo if you like your legs etc.

I enjoy my FTI triple disk, its great for the 99% daily driving aspects and 1% racing I do. May be on the tighter side but its no track queen.

I am running a North Texas Converter Triple Disc 258mm core, with 8.9 percent slip unlocked at 6800rpm. The car made 1315rwhp with the converter locked this summer.

I have not locked the converter since as I am over the HP limit for locking it at WOT currently.

Car sees a lot of street time as a weekend warrior and the track as well. I am very pleased with my converter.

No WOT lock in OD for me either way. I liked it better in the early days when there weren't so many choices. I can think of 6-8 companies to buy from and I am sure they would all be great, that is my problem. Prices all seem very similar. I just don't know if I need a multi disk or single disk really.

Jake didn't recommend it... I did it anyway, but only @ 700 whp.

If I ever actually get a real motor it might become a problem but so far it hasn't been an issue.

I don't think any of the good converter companies are scared of WOT lockup in any gear with a multi-disc, the trans guys don't like it.

Yup, Jake said the same thing to me.

Us trans guys don't like it because at some point you're going to have a failure because you went WOT in OD. A 4L80E should normally be treated like a TH400 when racing and save the OD as a luxury for cruising around. The overdrive roller clutch and the stock OD carrier are not equipped to properly handle that abuse for the long term. I can't imagine a builder alive who would warranty that, and the specific damage is pretty obvious as a telltale sign of what exactly killed the trans, just as a heads up.

Built by me, I just purchased a brake from Jake because I couldn't get the Transgo -3 kit to shift right. (turns out I am not the only one…)

The people who break parts in an 80e all have 300+ hp more than I do.

T400(or glide) & GV is the strongest OD combo you can get and still actually use the OD under full load... Pretty much the best combo out there... The ONLY downside is the non locking converter....Not a huge deal though.

RPM also recommends to NEVER go wot in OD....and DEFINITELY do not let it kick down from 4th - 3rd under heavy power....It kills them quick....as does dynoing them apparently.
