Default How much will it hold?

2001 5.3 out of a Suburban, how much boost? I was considering building a boosted sbc for a street and strip project, sold all of my BBC stuff, and then got to figuring up cost, and I got to thinking LS. Then I got to shopping around for a 05 or 06 5.3 out of a truck. They seem to be pretty scarce now.I know the 05's have a better bottom end. A guy on craigslist has the 01 for $400 with the 862 heads off of it. in the pics it looks clean but he knows it's got over 100,000 on it but that's it. Going to look around more, but I'd say I'm going to have to settle for a earlier 1.

They can handle plenty. Do you plan on swapping out springs and cam? 10-20psi shouldn't be an issue with a good tune and proper fuel.

I'm going blow thru, changing cam, lifters, springs, studs and head gaskets. On the sb I was planning on a s475 from VS racing. I'm new to turbos, worked on diesels for 15 yrs, but other than that, I know basics. Believe it or not I'm building a old style gasser. It'll be street and strip, on a budget, so I couldn't afford a 8.71. When I was drag racing, I always watched the turbo cars, Stock48 has got a awesome Nova, watched it on live feed last yr. I was figuring 6 or 7 on the street, maybe 20 at the strip.

I'd guess an 862 head.

May have got lucky. Found a 06, 6.0 out of a gmc denali, spelling, for $1000 complete. It's at a salvage yard but the cluster won't work so I don't know miles. Said it's a real clean vehicle.

I was told that the preferred ones was 05 and 06. They said they had better rods and pistons and could stand a little more boost. Someone will chime in.

I've got a 04 5.3 that has three different size head studs and it has gen 4 rods. They started swap to gen 4 in 04 and were fully implemented by 05.
